My DH and I want to plan a first anniversary trip to Italy, but we have no idea where to start.
If you went to Italy for your HM (or even if you've been there for another vacation) how did you go about planning it? I feel totally lost, but we want to book as early as possible for next summer so I have to get on the ball.
any advice is appreciated! TIA!

We''re going there for our HM. Went to Liberty Travel and gave him exactly what we wanted. Flying into Venice, but out of Rome.

We booked a cruise out of Rome through Liberty Travel. After the cruise we are spending 4 extra days in Rome.

October Bliss----we're doing exactly the same thing. We're taking a 10 day Holland American cruise out of Rome and then spending four days in Rome----2 before and 2 after the cruise. Which cruise are you doing?

It's probably easiest to go through a travel agent. You should definitely check out the Amalfi Coast....it's gorgeous.

I returned from Italy for my HM and it was great. I ended up planning it myself with the help of my FH. I actually went to Austria and Italy...but the way I went about it is by using the Fodors webstie. They have a chat area like LIW and I used tripadvisor. They were helpful in finding hotels because there are reviews there.
I would start by finding out how many days you want to stay there. (I prefer 10 days the least) If you have little time I would pick a few cities to visit and save the rest of Italy for a second trip. We went to Venice and Rome and it was just the right amount. Of course if you want more country/relaxing setting there is the Almafi Coast and Tuscan Regions.
If you aren't sure then an organized tour is always great to see different cities and get the story about the different places you visit.
In the end, depends on your pace and interests. I don't like art musuems too much so we stayed away from those and paid attention to the history of the cities and just general wandering.
Good Luck and congrats.

We're taking a 14-day Celebrity cruise. We will be in Rome one day before the cruise and then 4 days after.
