Ok, I've gotten alot of advice about my European vacation on this board, but now it's time to vote on my itinerary.
Option 1:
Rome Montepulciano (Tuscany) Florence Cinqua terra (or Elba) Venice
Or
Option 2:
Rome Florence Como Garda venice
We decided against our original plan of the Almafi Coast and Sicily because we're going in late August and fear it may be too hot.

IMO I like option 1... may I suggest you try to fit in Capri. It's beautiful there, you will never want to leave.

I like option number two. I went the Almafi Coast this past summer for my honeymoon. I have to agree that is was hot, but well worth it. I also hear that the Cinqua terra is beautiful. Check out Rick Steve's travel book. He is great for planning a trip. He also has a website.

This is so hard. Capri is kind of out of the way if we're doing the northern route. I'm so confused.

Oh, you just made me so happy. I guess I should stop stressing about where to go and just be happy I'm going to Italy in general. Thanks for putting things into perspective for me.

Re: Italy Itinerary - Poll
I agree that both sound amazing too me. I picked #1 though. Next year we want to go and we will do Sicily and the Amalfi Coast. My family is from Palermo and the Amalfi Coast is one of my favorite places in the world. We are not going to Rome though because my family always advised me against it. JMFO. Good Luck!! I can't wait to go. I am so jealous

Disclaimer - This is JMHO and some may not agree.
I was wondering how much time you were planning on spending in each place. It seems that your itinerary is very ambitious and you will be doing a lot of moving around in 10 days. It is possible that you may not have enough time in each place to see all the sights. IMO I think it is more important to see all the major sights in each area, rather than running from place to place and not being able to enjoy each place. Are you doing a tour, or on your own? Sorry if some of these questions have been asked before in your other posts, I haven't seen them. My husband and I were in Italy for 10 days in December. We went to Venice for 3 nights, Rome for 5 nights and Milan for 2. I loved Rome and Venice and wished we wouldn't have gone to Milan.
Rome in my opinion needs at least 3 to 4 days. You can spend a day in the Vatican alone, the same holds true for the Doge's Palace in Venice. Venice is a truly beautiful city and one of the best things about it is that you can wander the streets and take in the atmosphere of the city. Definitely do the secret passages tour at the Doge's palace it is really interesting. The tickets are available at the entrance.
2 days in Paris is a tease. Paris is so beautiful!!!! You will love it. The food and wine are great and there is so much to see. Paris is large and all the sights are pretty spread out. Although, the metro system is great and easy to use. My husband and I just returned yesterday from Paris and are anxiously awaiting our return.
I would consider streamlining your trip a bit. Have you checked out the fodors.com forums, they are really helpful. Also, the destination guides help you determine how many days are necessary in each place.
