It'll probably sound shallow, but...

do you think looks factor into who you become friends with?

I think that I find I'm more likely to be friends with people that I think are attractive...

...is that weird???

Uh oh....I guess I can't be friends with you Farah..I'm mad fugly!

Seriously, I think you gravitate towards people based on alot of things so attractiveness can definitely play a factor in it. I know I wouldn't want to be friendly with someone who showered infrequently, etc. or had some serious hygeine issues.

It's absolutely not true. I hang out with ugly people to boost my self esteem. Just kidding! But I have heard various theories on the things behind different types of friendships. I guess anything is possible.
It does sound a little shallow.
How does one define beauty?

I have always thought that in order to want to be freinds with someone you are usually attracted to them, but it is not always a physical attractiion.

True. It's just that I was just coming back into my office and this girl held the door open for me and I actually caught myself thinking 'Oooh, she's cute, maybe she'll be my friend'

I mean don't get me wrong, I don't base all of my relationships/friendships, etc on if I think someone's hot or not...it's just that I do think there is an element of attraction that goes into some friendships and I think part of it is physical. I was just wondering if anyone else thought the same..

Re: It'll probably sound shallow, but...

Oddly enough, 2 of my best friends are the exact same size and height as I am! Physically many of my friends are my height (short). I've never had a tall (female) friend. I think my friends are all cute! But I think why I think they are beautiful is because I know and love them. But one of my friends liked to go to bars with my nemesis, who is the personification of all things evil and fugly, and I think she did it to look better in comparison.

I know, I'm such a dork! But when you have to make an effort to make friends, you start to think these things!

I hear you though, I think I gravitate towards people who kind of dress/look like me.

No I agree with you and I don't think it's necessarily shallow unless that's ALL you base your friendships on, and I don't think most people do that. But yes, I do think physical attraction plays a role, maybe not in the simplistic way we might think either.

What you thought when that girl held the door open for you sounds like something that would have crossed my mind too.

Re: It'll probably sound shallow, but...

There's definitely some truth to it. After my bridal shower was over, my MOH turned to me and asked if I had *any* ugly friends at all...I don't think I do!

I also just realized that most of my friends are tall, or at least always wear shoes that make them near my height (5'9'). There are a few on the shorter side, but the majority of my friends are over 5'5'. But when I see a woman as tall as I am I immediately want to talk to her because: 1. I don't have to bend down to do so; and 2. I don't stand out as much as 'the tall girl' which gets old really quickly.

I would say that all of my friends are attractive. All of the people that I am really close to though are people from work. I have not formed a lot of relationships outside of my job. I think I'm socially challenged .
