It's Official....I just got my first Re-Gift!

It's Official....I just got my first Re-Gift!

I am sorry but I am a little hurt! I got my first re-gift! I was a little surprised too! It was from someone pretty close.

Anyway, I found out that the manufaturer stopped making the bowl. It was first released in 2000! I guess I feel a little bad about feeling hurt that they would re-gift me but I guess I just feel like they put me in a very bad perdicament in doing this. It is a nice crystal bowl but personally it is just not my taste. They didn't include a gift receipt with the box so I can't return it and personally I don't believe in re-gifting. The way I figure it, it is like any other gift, if something is just not your taste why should you feel odd about returning it...

Soooooo...I am completely at a loss as to what to do. I called my sis to ask her what she thought (I just said what should I do, it is nice but not my taste I am sure they would want me to get something that would certianly be more my taste) she just said...re-gift it! I dunno. Very odd perdicament but to me re-gifting is not something I want to do.

Has anyone else gotten a re-gift yet? What did you do?

I would call them and tell them you need the receipt because you just realized it is damaged (if you are brave.)

You can always re-gift it to them for something . . .

Really though, the above are all bold moves. In all honesty, I don't know if there is anything you CAN do. They gave you this gift, there is no receipt- other than what I have already said, I don't really have any great suggestions. I am sorry that you are disappointed

I don't think there is anything you can do. there is not set rule that they had to get something of of your registry. About one-third to one-half of my engagement gifts did not come off of my registry.

For the few gifts we could not return we started an E-Bay pile. After the wedding w'll get ot work on it. I have a few crystal pieces (Waterford) that will be collector's items so I'm not worried.

Thanks guys. I was thinking about calling them and asking for the receipt but apparently my sis said that I shouldn't (I think she knows very well that it is a re-gift and she doesn't want me to essentially call them out). I figure it is just like any other gift...If you don't like it what's the harm in returning it and getting something that fits your taste better. We'll see what my sister's husband says. I could try to return it but I know for fact that will just wind up being embarrassing and a waste of time since this bowl stopped being produced a while ago. I was thinking about putting it on eBay but I would be scared to mail out a crystal bowl for fear of breakage....
AH! Frustrating! So anyone else have any funny or interesting gift/re-gift stories!?

IMO, theyre not ppl that are very close to you so why bother?!
is it REALLY that serious??
So, they re-gifted you a bowl... so, now you know to have the same thoughtlessness next time you give them a gift.
But asking the for reciept, and freaking out b/c its not off your registry sounds a bit shallow. i dont mean to be so blunt, just trying to be honest.
Just forget about it. It will only cause you much stress in the end... and i cant see anything postitive coming out of all this.
But I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

put it on ebay - we got 2 or 3 lenox vases that i try to figure out where they were from but could not - so we put them on ebay - just put the availability to buy insurance or make it a requirement when you ship it

I know re-gifting stinks. We got someones old lenox candlesticks as a gift at the e-party. The box was even old looking. We just laughed and moved on. I guess they thought you wouldn't notice. But I know how you feel

Bribri529 - what a good answer to tell them they were damaged and need the receipt. Love the way you think!

Are you kidding? I have gotten so many re-gifts already its crazy. FH parents friends have gotten us most of our gifts so far and so many of them were cheesy bowls or something along those lines. I even had one woman actually bother to ask his mom AND me on separate occasions where we are registered, and then gave us some ugly glasses.
I dont want to sound like an ungrateful snot, and I almost expect some re-gifting, but dont make a point to ASK me where we are registered, and give us something else a week later. Thats like a slap in the face with a card that says 'RE-GIFT'!

First of all Lolita, shallow...excuse me! You are calling me shallow! Hardly. That could not be further from the truth and I really DO NOT appreciate that! I think I clearly explained my frustration about this but apparently not! Secondly...excuse me but I am not freaking out, I am simply sharing a story about a re-gift but frankly didn't expect you or anyone to blow it out of proportion calling me shallow... Serious, no-frustrating -hell yes! But geeez...thanks!

im not saying that you ARE shallow... but IMHO your post makes you sound that way. it just seems like youre making a big deal out of nothing.

Not that I was expecting the same in return but I guess I feel a bit let down that they would re-gift.

Oh yeah...I can see how what I said could have been misconstrued as shallow! I'm not sure when someone being let down by the fact that someone re-gifted became shallow because I must have missed that! Thanks anyway!

oh my god..... why are you starting drama??
y r u so defensive?

the reason i think that it sounded that way is cuz youre tryingt o figure 'what to do' about it... you want to ask them for the reciept?! you checked with the manufacturer that its been discontinued?
i can understand how you would feel hurt... i do... its not that...
it s all the rest.... you need advice on what to do about it?
throw it out. sell it. keep it. get over it.

Uhm...excuse me...me starting drama...Pot kettle! That would be you sweetie! Second I think you need to check yourself! Yes I did check with the store who in turn reiterated the manufacturer info to ME..When you go to try to return things they actually tell you manufacturer info! Like geez I can't take this back because it hasn't been manufatured in years.. I think you misread. AND I never said please help! Advise needed...Uhm if you read the quote you posted it was me asking if this has happened to anyone else, since it clearly happens all the time and for other to share...see ha ha..funny, lighthearted! I am through with this and your drama.... Anything else you can either just drop it or FM!

Re: It's Official....I just got my first Re-Gift!

My most memorable regift was for my shower from FH's friend's wife.
For her baby shower I spent $100+ on designer baby clothes. Then I bought another $50+ designer outfit when the kid was born.
I inturn got a $29 Lenox Wedding Promises picture frame with the label all yellowed and the box all mishappen. I tried to return it to Fortunoff's & Macy's and they both wouldn't take it back because it looked used!

Yep, gotta love the regifters ...

Buckles - just call us suckers for always doing the right thing! Cause that's exactly like I felt.

buckles... you obviosuly took everything that i said the wrong way. perhaps i misread what you wrote... what i got from it is that youre super pissed (and hurt) that you got a re-gift..it just seemed that after that youre going out of your way to make it into something bigger... and IMO that would only cause more problems with your family, which im sure you dont need while planning your wedding. i know getting re-gifts suck.. we all get them.. i just thought you were making a bigger deal out of it. maybe you arent, who knows. its just my opinion. i'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say 'you win' just to end this before it turns into something worse.
