... but my mom insists that I'll deliver early because she delivered me, my sister and brother all 5 weeks early? Something like this doesn't run in the family does it? I thought every pregnancy is different. She just won't let up about it.

Re: It's probably not genetic...
My OB told me that when my Mom delivered, or my Mom's ability to carry a pregnancy had NO BEARING whatsoever on my ability to carry or how late/early I would go.
Your body is your own, Melissa, and you are very different from your Mom. Just try to let her comments roll off your back...you might even just say, 'well, we'll see Mom.' and leave it at that.

Re: It's probably not genetic...
I wish I had my stepmom's labor genes- she has 3 hour labors from start to finish practically.
I think there may be some similarities between moms and daughters but often it has to do with just your body. But I do think the stretch marks might have something to do with Mom.

I think in some cases it does run in the family
I have a friend where in the past (3) genererations every woman on her mother's side (herself included) has gone into labor early. Same thing in my family on my mother's side (3 generations) including my son, all children were born late via an induction.
But we are most positivley in the minority.

Re: It's probably not genetic...
Well I can tell you that my daughter was completely different than me. Both my son and daughter were late, my granddaughter was born on her due date.
My labors were 4 hours start to finish with my daughter and 3 hours start to finish with my son. My daughter was in labor for 16 hours start to finish.
In my family at least, it's not genetic.

Re: It's probably not genetic...
Stretch marks are about your skin - and that's already programmed in your DNA....men can get stretch marks too from weight gain or weight loss....so that's not just about women.
But, your reproductive system and its health is very individual to your own body. A woman can have an incompetent cervix, which could make it virtually impossible to have a term pregnancy, yet her Mom could have had 5 healthy kids without incident. A Mom has nothing to do with her daughter, really.

Re: It's probably not genetic...
A friend of mine's mom delivered all 3 of her children before they were cosidered full term. My friend had her daughter 3 weeks early, and her sister had her 2 children 9 and 6 weeks early respectively.
I'm not saying it's genetic, but it certainly is interesting!
