Supposed to help improve the development of baby's brain. Any feedback?

I've heard this too, so I took an Omega 3 supplement during my entire pregnancy. I also used to take it before pregnancy, just for general health. It's good for so many things.

How do you buy it? Is labeled DHA or in combination with something else? I'm also assuming that you can find it in any nutrition store, right?

I don't think it was labeled DHA, they usually are made of fish oil, but vegetarians can take a combo of omega-3 (evening primrose, flaxseed, etc). In a healthfood store, you will find Solgar brand, I try to use this brand for all my supplements. Otherwise you can ask them what other brands they have, some might be refridgerated. Whether it's called DHA or Omega 3, they are all 'essential fatty acids' (EFAs).

Just FYI, I use an omega-3 supplement called Fisol. It's by Nature's Way. It's made so that it dissolves in your intestines instead of your stomach, so you get better absorbtion, have to take less of it, and won't get any digestive upsets from it (some people burp 'fishy' from taking fish oils).
Not only is it supposed to be good in general, and for the baby, but it's supposed to help prevent post partum depression. Studies have shown that a baby takes DHA from the mother during pregnancy, and that after giving birth, the mother's DHA levels are VERY low. Other studies have linked low omega-3 intake (low DHA levels) to depression in general. So they think PPD might be helped or prevented by supplementing with omega-3s.

I take a Cod Liver Oil supplement every day ... which contains Omega 3's. I just don't eat as much fish anymore and feel that it's necessary. Omega 6's, I get a lot of - from meats and Omega 9's - from nuts and olive oil.
I also heard that another benefit of this type of supplement is that it helps your hair retain it's natural color. My Mom even swears that her roots are less gray.

Cira, that's interesting about hair color, I better start taking them again, ever since I became a mother, I feel like I'm aging very quickly and that my hair is goign to start going grey very soon
