IVORY OR WHITE? 1st 2nd Marriage question

Hi,
I want to get a dress that is IVORY, but my mother says that i should wear white b/c ivory is for a second marriage??

I have tan skin and the ivory looks good....more sutble than the white...???

i think that ivory looks white when you're the only bride in the room??

any advice?

honestly i dont think that tradition applies to anyone anymore..i know all my friends that got married so far all wore ivory..its very nice

I think any color other than white for a first time bride is an old fashioned tradition and doesn't really apply anymore. This is my second marriage and I'm wearing white. I am blonde and pale and the ivory washes me out.

As for you and your tan skin the ivory would probably look great on you. Go for it!

my sister wore ivory at her wedding...it was her 1st. White washed her out and made her look sick. I would find your dress 1st....then choose the color that would look best with your skin coloring. My cousin's dress was white and rum pink.....again non traditional and it was beautiful. pick the dress that feels right to you...the one that makes you cry when you try it on....don't pick something to appease someone else...no matter who they are.

i believe that there is a color in between... diamond white is suppossed to be les 'bright' as white white

i agree that white, diamond white, ivory...all will be similar in a room where you are the only bride... so wear what looks best with your skin IMO

Ivory is fine for a first marriage. My mom was kind of stuck on me wearing white too, until she saw me in my dress in white. She knew right away that the ivory looked a million times better on me.

Most everyone is wearing ivory now because it's so much more flattering than white. And, honestly most of the time you cannot tell that it's not white. so I would go with what you truly want and either explain it to your mom or don't tell her that you ordered it in white and she probably won't be able to tell. Has she been with you at bridal salons and seen dresses in ivory. Can she tell the difference?

The ancient romans wore red and other bold colors to be married. Whole business about wearing white came later to signify status because someone who could afford to be outfitted in all white must have money. Then somehow morphed into a representation of purity, which is how it got associated with first marriage. But, truthfully how many getting married now a days are still virgins. Not many that I know. I'm probably going to draw some strong opinions by saying this but I almost think it's kind of dishonest to pretend if you're aren't.

My dress is ivory and this is my 1st and only wedding. I found out ( aftertrying on 10 white dresses) that I could not wear white...it made me look so off. WHen I tried on the ivory dress I looked so much better.

sometimes the ivory looks 'richer' and can even look nicer than white! i think the tradition thing is ridiculous and either one will look white since noone will be standing next to you in white to compare it to. my dress is kind of an off white and i like it better than the stark white - choose whatever you like better:)

i'm wearing ivory and it's my first marriage. go with what complements your skin tone.

I think you should wear what looks best on YOU!

I am very light skin and Off White looked a 1000 times better on my than white...

I think you should go with whatever color flatters your skin more. When I went dress shopping I tried on dresses in both colors to see which one would flatter me more and I saw a lot of other girls doing the same.
