hi girls... just wondering... i would rather not have a traditional bridal shower with just ladies, i would like to have a jack and jill type shower where everyone would be invited and we would not open up gifts in front of everyone... what else can you call something like this??? i don't like 'jack and jill' shower... what do you ladies think???

this seems to have come outta left field... everyone (i am assuming) has a shower... not sure why an eparty was brought up

that is interesting as I have never heard it before but it makes sense. When you have a shower usually the gift is from the woman...1 person...I tend to always overspend cuz thats my personality and why I have less saved than I should...LOL, but typically I'd say peple spend less than $100 on a shower gift! If you come as a couple...now you have to give 2 gifts...or at least spend a lot more per household income as you would have normally... It is kind of asking a lot of the guests that may have already given you a big e gift, now a bigger shower gift..and then a wedding gift....

I don't want a typical shower either, and I absolutely HATE watching someone open pot holders and silverware for two hours. I was thinking of having a 'Jack and Jill' shower too, same with my baby shower some day. I think calling it a 'couples shower' would work, or maybe you could make it something fun, like 'Save boredom, shower with boys!' haha

i always thought if it was a reg shower, that the gift is from the person attending and her immediate fam (which would include her husband in most cases)... not that if they both came, that they would both have to give a gift... not sure if that makes sense bc im confused now lol

well this is how I am thinking....i have been to coed baby showers and brought a much bigger gift (money wise). I mean,,the person throwing the party is paying for 2 guests now. for instance...at a wedding...if you bring a date...you cover them in the envelope if its your friends wedding no?

that's kind of how i feel too, i really don't enjoy going to them... and honestly, i don't cook...FH will have more fun opening the gifts since he will be the one picking them out!

Re: Jack and Jill Shower
my brother had a jack and jill baby shower bc his wife has no friends, and her family relationships are pretty sour too. there wouldn't have otherwise been much of a guest list.
the boys were really grumpy about the whole thing leading up to it. however, once the party got rolling, everyone sorta shut up and enjoyed it. you might try to get a feel for how your guest list will respond to the idea if you're worried about rubbing people the wrong way. otherwise, i think it's a fun change of pace to have the boys there too.

Re: Jack and Jill Shower
I think that when people come to a shower, they expect that you'll be opening gifts because you're being 'showered' with gifts. Even if it's a couples shower, I think etiquette dictates that you do the gifts. Otherwise, it's an engagement party.

I'm still going to open gifts also, I look forward to that part and I think other people do also

Re: Jack and Jill Shower
i am also thinking of doing this! We didn't have an engagement party so we haven't had anything wedding related that has involved both of us...and hey we're BOTH getting married..not just me.
