My little sister just found out on friday that she lost her job at the one in port jeff.... but they told her they were keeping the wedding/ events section open and just closing the retail shop.

it is true. there is a sign on the front door saying that they 'retired.' However, the word about town is that they went bankrupt.

Fm me for.more info if.any one wants it ..... my sister worked in the port Jeff and smithtown shops.

Hi everyone. I'm an LIW bride from way back and I am an LIF vendor with my law practice. Someone asked me to check this out. James Cress is not in bankruptcy but it seems that a former employer filed a Civil Rights/ Americans with Disabilities Act case against them. The demand is for 20,000,000. I don't know if that is why they shut their doors or if they might plan to file bankruptcy soon. If the lawsuit is the reason they shut their doors, then I sure hope it is legitimate. They were a staple on Long Island for a long time.

Hi Girls!

I am a James Cress bride and am getting married this weekend! They did call me 2 weeks ago to tell me they were 'retiring' the retail stores (both smithtown and port jeff) but were keeping the 'Elegant Events' portion open. They have been in contact with me with other phone numbers and will be keeping everything the way it was planned. If something goes wrong the day of, I don't know what I'll do. I do know that a bride that booked them for next summer is supposed to be getting a refund from them because they said they will be totally closed by then. I don't know what they whole story is but everything better be perfect for my wedding or I will FLIP OUT!

And their message on their phone does not say they retired.

Also, even if the Smithtown office is not open anymore there is another office in Port Jefferson so I would just call them if you are using them and make sure there is no issues.

I think the port jeff one is closed as well...I drive by everyday I will take a closer look tomorrow

If anyone is/was using James Cress Florist in Smithtown, they have closed their doors!
I found out Friday afternoon, and now have to locate another vendor!

I am actually friends with the owner's nephew of the other location....it is on Northern Blvd in Little Neck (right in between Bayside and Great Neck) maybe they will honor your order since you were so interested in the Smithtown location....they are all from the same family, but I believe opened diff shops bc of differences.

thats cress florist..not the same as james cress (coming from my friend who knows the late james cress and his family)

Yea I heard. I think the owner passed away and left the business to his son. The son let his wife and sister in law take over the locations and it wasn't the same.

Well if you notice, this is their first post so that's fishy right there and I live in smithtown and have not noticed any change with James Cress so i don't think anyone should worry

drive by the store on 347. I drove by it yesterday and it was closed.

thats cress florist..not the same as james cress (coming from my friend who knows the late james cress and his family)

Im confused, I believe we are talking about the same florist...there are 3 locations...same family.

Heard the same thing! Terrible. We used to use JC all the time for everything. The quality and customer service were not the same since the father passed away.
