I had my hair straightened at the Hair Village in Queens on Friday.
Im still nervous about the whole thing.... what products do you recommend?
I purchased conditioner from the shop, but what other products do you use?
Thanks!

Re: japanese straightening
I went there to get my hair straightened for the first time in May 2006 and word for advise, GO EARLY. The first time I went it was on a Friday and I didn't leave there until almost 8pm (I got there shortly before 4pm). It cost me $200 because I have thick, semi-coarse hair. However, it did left my hair really dry as straw. Gladly, I went to my regular salon 2 weeks later for a deep condition and it helped get back to its soft self.
I will admit the service is much better during the week and early in the day but don't go on Saturdays. I took my mother to get her hair done back in June and we didn't leave the place until almost 5pm because it was so crowded (we got there shortly after 10am). Also the manager there was trying to jip my mom into paying a super big tip to everyone when she only had 1 woman the whole time and 1 who washed her hair. We both saw that the manager takes most of the tip money and give very little to everyone else.
I do recommend another place where I got it done recently. It's located in Midtown and it's 200-400 for the service and did a great job.

Re: japanese straightening
I have been doing this for the past 5 years ( I do it every 9 months) and I love it, I never use any speical condition at all, regular stuff only. but I dont' recommend you dye your hair at all. coz it will make your hair very dry and the result is not that great.

it's a chemical process that uses the same stuff as when you get a perm, except instead of putting your hair in curlers they flat iron it out for you so it's permanently straight.
