I just read on MSN that Jessica Simpson's mom says, in a Vanity Fair interview that Jessica has an IQ of around 160...now, I'm no genius, but i think 'is chicken of the sea chicken or fish' speaks for itself... what do you guys think? is she smart and this dumb blond thing is totally an act?

Re: Jessica Simpson, a genius?
realize this is her MOM saying this... she has a tendency to exaggerate (on the show). i would say maybe she is book smart but not common sense smart... but thats not true either. She didn't know what rigomortis (sp?) is. and didn't she call them mouses or something like that.... ? so i don't believe it.
PLUS i don't think she's that good an actress for it to be an 'act'.

I can believe that she has some sort of intelligence, but has a tendency to say stupid things, which are then caught on camera and played for the show. I mean, think about how many stupid things you say in a week - then condense them and put them into a 1/2 hour time slot....anyone would look pretty stupid. I think that she knows how she appears, and she is using it fpr [ublicity. I believe she said in an interview that she learned at an early age to act like a 'dumb blonde' because it got her more attention. Not taht i'm saying the girl is a genius....but i think she is smarter than she lets on. Nick on the other hand........might just be dumb

my DH says this all the time. He says 'that guy acts like he knows so much, he's just as dumb as her' but i think you're right, editing tends to create a one sided picture of people.

HAHAH I saw that to. Well her mother ( who isnt all that bright herself) says that that was her IQ when she was tested... IN THE 5TH GRADE!! I think since then the bleach has gotten to her brain.

Excellent point...I love her...I think she's so cute and fun...We don't all need to be serious and dramatic all the time!

I am getting my phd in psychology. Gifted is an IQ of 130+. It is basically impossible to have an IQ of 160.

I have heard it said that because she's blonde she's played up the dumb role her whole life and it's worked to her advantage, but once again, that could be made up as well.

IQ tests vary..I too am getting my degree in Psych...I also have a tested IQ 3 years ago of 130 and I am NOT a Genuis...as a matter of fact, Im often a jessica clone when it comes to certain things and squirrels excite me, so thats my way of saying IQ tests are not that useful...

I am using any of the Wechsler or stanford binet scales. What IQ scales are you referring to?

Don't forget that the scales don't use 'genius' as a diagnostic label. They use gifted.

Standford binet are not available to grad students to be tested with, and I wasnt disagreeing with you at all, was saying that they dont accurately distinguish true genuis or I wouldnt be working at an insurance comapny to support myself at this point

I don't understand what you mean. I have administered the SB dozens of times. Obviously, the Wechsler is the standard and administered more frequently.

I agree with you. I also think that she is extremely spoiled and was very sheltered by her parents. It was very obvious that she never had to clean her own room when she was little or do chores! I think part of it is an act though

Totally!!! She is so sheltered and spoiled! I think part of it is an act, and the rest of it is immaturity, and being naive.....but hey, it's working for her! she's getting more publicity than she used to for just singing.....

Re: Jessica Simpson, a genius?
I like Jessica b/c she seems like an honest person, not crafty, just 'what you see is what you get'. Part of her charm I think is that she isn't the brightest bulb. Not sure I'd want to hang out with her, but I like her more than the other pop tarts. IMO her mom was beefing up JS' IQ score when she told Vanity Fair.
