What's the best way to start to learn how to do beading, especially necklaces? Thanks!

Re: Jewelry making for beginners?
Michaels.com has some interactive tutorials and the stores have idea sheets. I want to do it too, but I'm afraid I'll mess up....but from what I hear, it's pretty easy

Thanks, I'll check out the Michael's page. It really does seem pretty easy, but I'd still be scared that the thing would fall apart two seconds after I put it on!

Re: Jewelry making for beginners?
I make jewelry... i taught myself... let me know if you need any help... i have a great web site that I order my beads from and I can tell you alll the tools you need to get to start up! Michals is a bit pricey for the swarovski beads and the sterling silver findings.

what do you recommend starting off with as a beginner? I'm looking to get started also, but all the tools, wires/strings, and beads....

Re: Jewelry making for beginners?
For tools, I would get round nose pliers, wire cutters, nylon coated plyers, smooth chain nose pliers, flat nose pliers, and if you are planning on making necklaces and bracelets a crimping tool.
I bought this package at Michaels or AC Moore that was a set of 5 jewelry making tools... but those tools ended up being kinda crappy and I replaced them all with tools I bought on artbeads.com
To start I bought some cheapo wire at 24 gauge and 28 I think, and some cheapo beads... then I started buying good stuff from artbeads.com. I started with making earrings... that was easiest for me. I looked online for pics, and tried to copy what I saw, first using the cheapo wire for practice, then moving to sterling silver wire. I also took out a beading book or too from the library.
If you want to do bracelets and necklaces, get beadalon jewelry wire and some crimp beads... i also practiced first with cheapo ones before moving to SS
Hope this helps... let me know if you have any more questions!
