Jewish Brides.. Question???

Jewish Brides.. Question???

Are any of you doing a Mizinka (sp?)?? and if so when do you plan on doing the dance during the reception??

For those who dont know what a Mizinka is:
...it's when the last child of Jewish parents gets married. Both parents sit on chairs in the middle of the dance floor and everyone dances around them, something like the Horah, and the mother gets a crown of flowers for her head.

Good question. i was thinking about it. My wedding is over 8 months away, so I thought I would figure it out closer to the wedding.

FH is an only child, so technically we should do one. But neither of our families is very religious. We like to do the Hora more for tradition's sake than anything. I don't think we will be doing a Mizinka, though. FMIL has already said she wasn't too keen on the idea, but if we REALY WANTED it, she would grin and bear it. I won't make her do it if she doesn't want it. It makes no difference to me or to FH.

Not having one, both parents have passed , but I went to a wedding and they had it and people really did not look like they were enjoying it too much, nor the mom the guests were dancing around. If my mom was alive, I would not do it ( Just my opinion)

Definitely doing it. I am an only child and FH is oldest of two. My mother has been looking forward to this for a really long time!

We did it for my Mom but didn't do the flower thing. My dad is deceased. I'm pretty sure it happened while the desert was out.

We had never heard of it until my MOH had one at her wedding - her DH is an only child. Due to a few circumstances surrounding the wedding, we thought it was tacky, until we found out that they hadn't wanted one and the band forgot that they didn't and announced one anyway.

Frankly, I'm an only child - it's not such a big deal to marry off one kid, and my parents had never even heard of this tradition. FH has a younger, unmarried brother, so it's not even an issue on his side. We're not having one.

I'm the youngest child, so we are having one for my parents. I'm not sure exactly when it will take place, but when I have seen it in the past, it has been during the second half of the reception.

Definitely during second half of reception. In fact, 2 sets of my friends who were married at the sands did have one. I think it is a nice tradtion buyt it is up to you and FH.
