Jewish Brides...Question

Jewish Brides...Question

Just wondering if you were having a bridal shower,
I heard somewhere that this is not a custom regularly practiced.

My FMIL is jewish, and i am wondering if maybe that is why she doesnt want to invite anyone from her side or friends to my shower, or help out with any planning with my mom

I am, but my situation is unique.

That said, my mom told me that my generation is the first generation in the family to have bridal showers, so yes that could be the reason your FMIL is not participating. Some of the more observant girls may know the history better but I think they didn't have them in years past...baby showers either and I guess some families still follow that.

If they are very religious they won't. Same with baby showers (bad luck they say but I dont agree).

I am having one.

very possible... bc liek i said above.. im not religious at all nor is my mom but she has her old beliefs....

my parents never had a bridal shower, just a wedding! and gifts after...

when they had me (well i was adopted.. but they NEVER announced me until i was in teh US) they had a welcoming bc unless i was born anythign could have happened....

im following suit with the baby.. but my mom wants to have a bridal shower... she feels that its a big thing for her to do to help me start a new life.

his parents had a tiny wedding, she didnt even wear a wedding dress and of course no shower either.

. SHe had BIG bar&bat mitvahs for both her kids, liek huge weddings, with all the planning and stuff that i am going through, I feel like since she did his bar mitvah that she is done and that was the biggest even in her kids life.

That is so nice that your mom is having a bridal shower for you.
It will definately help the both of you out, because these gifts are a great start for your new life with your new husband

with all that being said i dont think she is to fond of having a bridal shower...

bar and bat mitzvahs are the big things to do and then the wedding... i also never was bat mitzvah-ed...

would you consider askign FMIL? but in a i was just curious bc i have heard that its is not customary to have a bridal shower for ur children... is that true? <-- or somethign along the line to see her views?

Re: Jewish Brides...Question

I'm reform and the jewish people I know still had bridal showers. Is there a religious reason behind them that I'm not familiar with?

I'm Reform also, and must've missed that memo on bridal showers...

My mother and FMIL both had them, as did my cousins when they got married. I guess the need for dishes and pots and waffle irons overrode tradition in my family.

Hmm I am reform as well and not sure it's customary not to have one but I did have one and it was my FMIL's doing ..lol

Not sure if she just did this because she did it for her other daughter in law but I know she knew it was something I wasn't expecting.

Re: Jewish Brides...Question

just FYI in Italian families ( real Italian families not Italian American like mine, lol )

there are no bridal showers or baby showers

actually, NOTHING can be bought before the baby is born and named

when my mom had me ( 12 years after my brother ) my aunt had to go out and buy a crib/coming home outfit/ EVERYTHING before I came home!
