Jewish Brides...R U breaking a glass or a lightbulb???
We're kinda torn....on the one hand, we wanna stick to the traditional way of doing it and use a glass, BUT....my fiance is petrified of not breaking it on the first shot
On the other hand, I have heard from several people (including our Rabbi) that nowadays, many couples choose to go with a lightbulb, because its easier to break and supposedly makes a great noise!
What are you using and why? TIA

Re: Jewish Brides...R U breaking a glass or a lightbulb???
Im not jewish but fh is he wants the special glass made to break he is not thrilled about the lightbuld idea. Unfortunately I really dont know much about it other then its traditional for the groom and I have seen several different meanings but it is important to him and thats all that matters to me. I had a thread up of where to get it. I am going to look into everywhere tomorrow.

FH is Jewish and really wants to break the glass! I like these, I intend to put the shards in a bowl or something after the wedding wedding glasses

We;re doing the lightbulb. Our Rabbi said it makes a better sound. We don't really want to do anything with the shards.

we have a 'wedding mezzuzah' that we will be using - it comes with a glass that you use to break, that is colored, and you put the shards inside the mezzuzah.

Re: Jewish Brides...R U breaking a glass or a lightbulb???
Crashing...
I am Jewish and DH is Catholic but HE insisted on breaking the glass. I sent my mom on a mission and there is a place in (I believe) New Hyde Park called 'The Zion Lion'. They have eveything from interfaith kettubah's to the breaking of the glass. They have different sizes and colors as well. We ended up getting a smaller, black glass for DH to break. The sound was GREAT and has the sound of a light bulb PLUS it was VERY easy to break. You can bring it back to 'The Zion Lion' and they can make it into anything you want them to (they have different options). We ended up giving it to my mom (my mom's Jewish and my dad's Catholic and my mom holds traditions VERY close to her heart) and told her to do what she wants with it and it was our gift to her. Then she is going to pass it down to her first grandchild (whenever that may be).
ANYWAY, DEF check out 'The Zion Lion' if you are looking for the glass instead of the light bulb.

our rabbi said we can NOT use a lightbulb. He suggested we use the glasses they make for breaking or something not that thick.
