SO my mother has this amazing knack for using her Jewish Guilt to make you feel bad. My mother has been bugging my Fh and I to do programs. We had no desire or need for them (since we are not getting married in a church) to do them. So we decided against it last minute. So here is a reenactment of the call: Mom: So, I know you have been struggling with spending the extra money for donation cards. So your sister and I thought of a great idea. Me: okay! Mom: Well, you can tell your guests you are making a donation on the program instead of spending all the money on donation cards. (At this point, I know she has a motive) Me: It's too late (although it not). I already paid our vendor to do the cards. Mom:hmm, welllllllll, I really want to do programs. Me: Mom, Chris and I really don't want them. There mostly used for ceremonies (at a Chrurch, temple, etc). Mom; No, that's not true. But whatever. If that's what you want. In her tone.
She is amazing and deserves na oscar for her JEWISH GUILT!

Re: Jewish Guilt (MOB story)
Hmmm....my mother must be part Jewish, because they sound an awful lot alike! Unfortunately, mothers have this thing they do that makes us feel bad for nearly every decision made...don't worry about it, this to shall pass!!

We aren't Jewish but my mom is very good at using guilt when she wants to! Why don't you offer to let her make them, if they are that important to her? Just tell her that they aren't a priority for you and you don't have the time to make them, but if they mean that much to her you'd be happy to let her do it for you.

:)
Why does she want them so badly? There really isn't any need for them if you have a Jewish ceremony. There aren't any readings etc....

OMG, agreed. My mom must be Jewish too! My mom wanted seating arrangements. I wasn't going to budge until my caterer recommended it. 'this to shall pass'

HA! That's sounds like my mom also. Except my mom would add in
'But I want to do the programs! We can do it together! You, me and your sister! it can be a Mother, Daughter Craft Day! '
she has a means of sucking you in.

Re: Jewish Guilt (MOB story)
welcome to my world ... only difference is my mom is Greek and there is no end to the guilt. I've learned to keep my mouth shut and choose my battles carefully... What is my mom going to do when I dont wear white shoes?? Come to think of it, she might secretly pack an extra pair in her bag, bust them out and toss them to me as I walk down the aisle.... i feel your pain!

Re: Jewish Guilt (MOB story)
I can totally relate. My mom was DRIVING ME CRAZY about doing programs, but I really didn't want to do them. The same thing happened with my friend and her mother in law.
Neither of us are doing programs...
I feel your pain though. Just do what you want to do - it is your day!
