Jewish ladies (or anyone who wants to give an opinion)
I'm doing Christmas cards for the first time this year. A number of DH's family members are Jewish, as is his boss. (DH is Catholic...so he doesn't really know the answer to this or I would just ask him).
I got 'Happy Holidays' cards for his family members and his boss, who is also Jewish. However, the picture that we are putting in our envelope is our new kitten with an 'Our First Christmas Ornament' on our tree skirt which says 'Merry Christmas.'
Am I going to offend people if I send them this picture? And what do I do in the future? My Christmas/holiday cards are always going to have a Christmas theme to them because we celebrate Christmas. Do I just never send people a picture?

Crashing.... I did Christmas cards and fh is Jewish and I'm catholic I got the idea from a Jewish female atty at my job (her DJ is not Jewish) my cards say.....merry everything happy always. it covers everyone and is cute... as far as the picture I don't think most would get offended. I took care of that to all my ornaments on my tree are blue and silver and so is my tree skirt. Last year when fils came over fh just said it was his hanukah bush they just laughed

I think that since you wrote happy holidays it would be ok.
I get so upset when I try and make a nice gesture by sending out a card thinkning of you and yes, i am catholic, yes i celebrate christmas, and yes you are my friend. but im sorry if i do not remember that you are jewish. but in my mind I was trying to be in good spirits to begin with so instead of getting mad that I sent you a christmas card, be happy that you are special enough to recieve one!

so what u mean is that a Jewish person should be just thankful for receiveng such high honor as a card from a non Jew? everyone should be respectful of each others traditions. I dont like for exmp when I am being wish Happy Xmas, its not my holiday, say happy holidays and he done with it. as I am sure a non Jew wouldnt like to be wished a happy hanuka or rosh ha shana. its nice to wish each other things but it shouldnt be in a way of 'just be glad I even remembered u'
to asnswer u Jen: I wouldnt be offended by a cute kitty no matter what a reason - so cute!

I doubt they'd be offended. I work for a jewish family and we get tons of cards reading 'merry christmas' and they still put them up on display and comment how 'nice it is to get a card from so and so' we do get more 'happy holidays' then anything else, but IMHO its the thought. I was thinking of sending out cards and, because I am catholic, I would put merry christmas OR happy holidays on mine and I wanted a picture in front of our tree and fireplace (with stockings). I have friends that are catholic, jewish, hindu, etc. I personally would not be offended if someone sent me a card celebrating another religions holiday. what always bothers me is the 'christmahanakwanza'... very simple, happy holidays or (insert your religious holiday).
on wednesday I had to get my truck inspected and the guys in the shop aren't american, they are indian and they wished me a happy thanksgiving, and i replied 'you as well'... even after they told me they do not celebrate it. (i had a full conversation about this with them) basically how it broke down was that I wish wishing them a nice day, which happened to be 'my' thanksgiving. does that make sense?
point being. I think the picture wouldn't offend anyone. you're saying happy holidays which we're all celebrating a holiday.

Maybe you can do your picture next year with a christmas hat and have a menorah in the background or something lol

agree with this.
:o) no reason hanukkah should be considered the step child of the holidays! lol Its really nice to be wished happy hanukkah ill be honest.
Oh i totally would totally NOT be offended by your cute little cat!!! Pets are awesome!!!
Just a thought--> I was thinking if you wanted maybe you can write happy hanukkah on the card that way you didnt feel like your 'hurting' anyones feelings?
