My doctor said that I'm gaining weight too fast too. I usually have my appointments at 6:00pm. They ask me to get on the scale with shoes and clothes and yup 160lbs at 6 months ( I originally started out at 135 ). My scale at home was 6 pounds lighter and I ate before I went there!!!
Dr. Levine really had me upset!! Now he said to stay off carbs for 3 weeks!!! Won't I be depriving my baby of things that it needs?

Oh PLEASE dont feel bad about gaining weight!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. Stop looking at the scales and STOP LISTENING TO THE MALE DOCTORS. They have NO idea what its like to be pregnant. They all have their own ideas about being healthy. If you are comfortable, the baby is thriving and you are healthy enjoy your pregnancy and dont stress over the weight. (BTW that was a pep talk I got from one of the female docs in my practice, not verbatium, when I was at 40lbs at 8 months)

My FEMALE doctor also told me to slow down on the eating. They are just being honest and looking out for their patients. The heavier you get the more difficult it is on your back and feet. Unfortunately!
I was totally crushed when I found out that the whole 'eating for two' theory doesn't really fly!

Seriously, please see my reply to the other post. I was against all odds. *Everyones* body is totally different and will gain weight differently. My mom use to eat like a rabbit, know what she always gained....60 + pounds and she never had complications and was back on her feet in no time; as was I. I also might add that she had 7 children and probably doesn't even weigh 120 pounds soaking wet now.

Stay away from the carbs? You'll be so constipated. I never heard a doctor say that before, I would say 'moderation' not skipping the food all together, especilly in pregnancy, carbs help with energy and you need the energy. Don't worry, as long as there are no health issues, eat away Stefanie!!! Enjoy yoourself. My docs would never even go there will me, at the end of each pregnancy I refused to look at the scale and I only asked them to discuss it with me if there was protein in my urine, edema, or other health issues affected by my weight that could cause harm to me or the baby, otherwise, I told them I was enjoying myself and to leave me alone! You look wonderful!!!!

My back, feet all felt fine. It also has to do with difficulty of heavier womem in labor. They say there is a higher chance of complications... which I can see but if your healthy there is no reasonyou should have any more problems gaining 45 lbs as opposed to 35

Oh honey I know how you must feel!!
My hope is that somehow we'll get through these pregnancies without gaining so much weight that it's unhealthy for us or our babies!! And YES, male doctors S U C K. I think maybe I would have taken it better coming from a female doc who has had kids... cause I know she's been there.
Plus we are both still in that 'recommended' 25-35 lbs weight gain range so I figure as long as we are there, we are okay. And I continue to pray that our weight gain will slow down in the 3rd trimester since we gained more in the 1st and 2nd!!!
And thank you JMG -- that's really sweet!! But you haven't seen my 20wk belly pic yet!!
ETA: My scale at home was 8 lbs lighter too!!!

Well let's see em then lol!
I bet my 10 week belly pic looks MUCH fatter than your 20 week does!! I feel like such a lard - I know it is terrible to feel that way - but it doesn't look like baby - it just looks fat.

Re: Jimmys Bride...don't feel so bad because...
I have heard that complaint from a bunch of my friends that have male doctors. Until a man can give birth or carry a child i feel they should have no say. I gained 8lbs my first trimester and i flipped out because all of the books say 2-5 lbs is all you should gain. My female doc said i am fine. There is nothing wrong with gaining that amount of weight. Every woman carries different. Yes the books say you should only gain 23-35 lbs. I know people who gained less and more and all of their children are healthy and the mom's are back to their normal size. You look great i don't think your doctor knows what HE is talking about as far as gaining weight. Don't worry about it, it is not like you gained over 100 lbs with this preg. it's not a big deal. Relax and ear some carbs, my doc. said dieting or cutting out a food group is bad for the baby so eat up. Sorry sometimes men just don't think.
