Ok so for the past two weeks there have been really no elementary positions in the NY Times
I have passed along my resume to I don't know how many people...I have given it to parents at camp who know people in school districts, I have sent it to people my mom knows..etc....And of course my resume/application is on every districts online system...and NOTHING
I am getting discouraged that we are in the last weeks of August and I have nothing...

Did you send your resume to private schools also? I know that it doesn't pay or have benefits like the public schools, but at least it will be a paycheck! Does the camp you are working in have a program during the year? I know that the camps I worked in also ran a school during the rest of the year, you might want to check into that. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you Kathleen!!

Have you considered being a governess for home school kids? I dont know how it pays, but I'm sure their out there. Try a job agency.

Yeah I did that too....since so many Catholic schools closed this year..those poor teachers are looking too so the diocese isn't hiring at the moment

I'm in the same boat, but I'm not a teacher!!
My cousin works as an elementary teacher in Queens, if you're willing to travel that far, I'll ask her if there's any openings. I know she's moving upstate this month so there might be. Only thing is I think she works in Jamaica.

Although it is August, many people get hired right before or at the very beginning of school...I know in my school we are 2 kids away from having to open a new kindergarten class in which case someone new would have to be hired. Good luck!

when i was job searching i would check here everyweek it was so helpful:
http://www.dowling.edu/mydowling/stu.php scroll down the page under Announcements, and click on current Education Job Openings. They update it once a week... it is usually a compilation of NY Times and Newsday, but sometimes there is a job that wasnt advertised in there!!
