I am just so down about my job....last year I was a leave replacement middle school reading teacher and so loved my job....I love middle school kids and the teachers I worked with are some of my best friends now. It was tough finding a middle school reading job so I had to take elementary reading....and I just don't like it. I miss the lessons I taught at middle school and the independence they had and the feedback you got. Elementary is just not my thing.
On top of not liking the age I thought I was going to get a lot more money then I am but I am making like $6000 less then what I made last year....It was just one of those days for me.

Aww, sorry. I could never teach elementary. Now that I'm teaching 7th and 8th (last year I only taught 7th) I think 7th graders are so little and annoying! Older kids are so much better. The work is more fun and they're better to talk to.

Have you thought about afterschool programs? I have a degree in English and I think I might teach at one. My friend runs a program in the bronx and she said they pay good money and she recommended that I look at this website: idealist.org
It doesn't hurt to look/try until you're where you want to be...hope you feel better more hugs for u

I am sorry that you are having an off day! But just think you only have to get through tomorrow and then you will have a 3 day weekend (right?) I don't get Columbus day off cause I work in the Internet Marketing field! i feel like most businesses don't give Columbus day off..........
Oh man that really ***** ... I have a few friends that are teachers and my closest friend is an elementary reading teacher and she tells me some horror stories ... Maybe you can just put your resume out there and hope for the best for next year! ... hey it could be worse you could have gotten a job teaching in a really bad nieghborhood where the kids in middle school curse you out and dont do there work!lol

Thanks ladies... I know I should be grateful to have a found a job because my area is so tough to get into...with only 2 reading teachers per building in most schools it is so hard to get in... and I am grateful to have gotten something....
I just feel like teaching middle school it was more professional for me (so not to knock any elementary teachers out there).....I just loved their independence and I can debate with them and the lessons were fun...
I just have to get through this year and hope to land a middle school job next year.....any middle school teachers out there let me know if there are any openings!!!!
