My Pre Cana is scheduled for the following 3 Tuesdays at 7pm. i work in the city until 535, so I need to leave work early. With my old manager, all I had to do was ask and shorten my lunch in order to make up the half hour. I sent my new manager an email explaining that I had a very mportant engagement on those three Tuesdays, and that I would shorten my lunch to leave at 5pm. She sends me a g-chat (our company uses gmail) saying that I should have worded it as a REQUEST and not MATTER OF FACT, because this is something I should have asked for her approval before scheduling. She then asked what the important engagement was, and after I told her that they are REQUIRED classes in order to get married in a Catholic church, that I registered for them in June, she reiterated that I should have asked for her approval.
A) she wasn't with my company in June B) none of her business.
my job is in its slow season right now, so I don't see how it's essential that I work until 535. Needless to say, I have to call up the church and tell them that I may be a few minutes late. I can only imagine being stuck at the job next May and being told the same thing, that's why I've been sending out resumes like crazy.

Re: Job vent (long)
I would tell het that you spoke with the prior manager about it but wanted to just make sure she knew since she was now your manager.

Re: Job vent (long)
35 mintues should not make a big difference to her. Some people just are hard asses for no reason. I agree with what Mara said.

I'd suck it up and be super nice. Kill her with kindness bc she clearly sounds like a control freak moody Bi^&*. I'd write something like an apology and a clarification.

WOWW...SORRY she is being such an A-Hole...whats the big deal if you leave 30mins early. Some people really just like being in control and being difficult. It is for something very important and I honestly dont think its any of her damn business what you need to leave early for.

Re: Job vent (long)
This is what gives women in business a bad name... She feels the need to remind you that SHE is in charge and SHE controlls what goes on in HER office. I had one of these I can't stand it.
I say tell her it was scheduled before she started and was cleared as neccessary then.

I would do exactly this!

Re: Job vent (long)
I would have loved to have said it was approved by the prior manager, but other people have had issues like this before where something was approved by our old manager, and she gave the same mechanical speech about how everything has to be approved with her becauze 'this is a call center environment.'
I hate her so much!!!!!

Ugh! I'm so sorry! I guess do what one of the other girls say...kill her with kindness and then hopefully she gets over it!

Wow, I agree with the other postings. She is definitely power tripping. Just keep smiling and don't let her get the best of you. Keep sending out those resumes.

Re: Job vent (long)
Today she called me into an empty office to have a meeting about the 'personal' time I need for what she referred to as 'marriage counseling.' She reiterated how it was inappropriate for me to send an email as if I were 'tellinf' them I had to leave early, and how someone told her I vented about it to others. Apparently she had the email forwarded to all the managers, and she said our Director was really upset at my wording.
but at the end of it all, I get to leave early on those days. She made it like shenwqs doing me the world's biggest favor. ...sigh...I need to get out!
Wow, she sounds like a huge jerk. While I would normally think that it's not good to vent about a job on a public forum, I doubt you would care too much if she saw it.
Honestly she sounds like she's pulling this just because she can. Forwarding the email to the managers was also a jerk move. Ugh.

Re: Job vent (long)
I never gave her name or the company I work for, and she's not getting married or living on Long Island. Lol
And once I'm gone, which will hopefully be soon, I could care less if her Internet searches stumbled upon this thread
I'm supposedly getting screened for an Academic Coaching position I had applied for last week, which means I may get a call for an interview next week. fingers crossed!
