John Anthony's Brides and wedding cakes...

Did you use the house bakery (Patsy`s) for your wedding cake? If you did, did you meet with the baker or did you see pictures of the different cakes you can choose from through John Anthony`s?
I spoke with Patsy`s the other day, and they told me that I never meet with them, that I go through John Anthony`s entirely.
I would like to keep it simple by using the house bakery, but I`m not sure how I feel about the way they have it set up.
Any input is much appreciated.

John Anthony`s wedding cakes...

I thought it was great that John Anthony`s included the cake in the package. In our final meeting in the days prior to the wedding, we went over all the little details, all the final arrangements. As we were just about to get up to leave, I remembered to ask about the cake design. We were shown a book with some pictures, which from what I remember were low quality pictures. Well, we explained how we wanted the cake to look, but were disappointed with the final result. It wasn`t very close to what we had envisioned, but only we knew that. It wasn`t drastically different, just not what we were expecting. We had asked for the tiers to be seperated by the typical white pillars, which they were, and we had asked that fresh flowers be placed on the center of each tier, with the exception of the top tier, since we had a cake topper. There were no flowers on the centers of the tiers. Instead, giant blooms, I guess of roses, ran down the front of the cake .. 2 blooms on each tier. I really can`t say for sure what the flowers were .. only because they were so big .. but they matched perfectly to the roses we used in our centerpieces. As for the taste of the cake .. it was delicious .. don`t worry about that!

My advice would be, if you have a specific idea in mind, find a picture of it and give it to John Anthony`s for them to put in your folder. Or show it to them and ask if the design you want is going to be too complicated. But, this goes with all your planning .. if you have a specific vision, idea or request of exactly how you want something done, make sure, in no uncertain terms, your vendors understand and are clear on what you want. Writing things down or presenting pictures leaves little room for someone to get creative on their own.

John Anthony`s wedding cakes...

You work the whole cake thing out through them. I had wanted a specific design on mine but when I showed them the picture I found out that it would run abut $800-1000 and I didn't think it would really be worth the money. I picked out one of their cakes and had my florist do the flowers on it. It really did look beautiful...no complaints here!
But, you don't have any contact with the bakery at all!
