joining a gym? help please!

joining a gym? help please!

I've been thinking about joining a gym because my family has a history of heart problems, and I want to avoid that... but I have no idea how this works... do you pay a membership fee, and then extra for aerobics classes and stuff? Are there places where it's just one flat fee? Does anybody know of any gym where you can get a personal trainer for a couple of sessions for not too much money? (just to get me started) How expensive are these things usually? (membership, classes, trainers, etc)

Also, can anybody recommend a gym in or near Huntington?

thanks ladies!

Hi Sara-
Since working at Sky i have noticed that this gym is not like the others.... meaning b-4 i started working here i felt comfortable working out (there are no pairs H 'working out' there was always stuff avalible and all the people are really nice anyway to anser your question.....the gyms usually have a flat membership fee to be paid monthly....there also could be an enrollment fee. most gyms only give new members 1 free pt session, sky gives 3 b/c they want their members to feel comfortable with the equipment. u should check them out on web. Ok so personal training differes at gyms some traininers work FOR the gym and others work IN the gym. their fee can range from 45-55 an hour. I trained with a gym in Plainview for 35 but that was only b/c 2 of my friends were training with me other wise his fee was 60! anyway hope this helps i also i FM you.

I joined LA fitness in lake success, there is a one time 'activation' fee, then a monthly charge and all the classes they offer are free.

Lucille Roberts is pretty inexpensive and so are their trainers...

I belong to NYSC, I used to live in Hoboken and they were fairly reasonable compared to the other gyms there. They have a flat monthly fee and it includes classes, pretty much everything other than personal trainers.

My friend used to belong to Eastern Athletic Clubs in Dix Hills and Melville and she liked it a lot.

The YMCA in Huntington has a gym and classes as well and you get to use the pool (you have to become a member).

I used to belong to Gold's, but I let my membership go.

All the classes are included in the price ($52 a month if you sign a year long contract). Spinning too, but you have to sign up ahead of that.

You get one free training session with a new membership, and its $99 for 3 1-hr personal training sessions.

This was the gold in E. Northport. I think Deer pArk is the same price.

The NYSC is huntington is expensive 75 per month.

Fh and I belong to La Fitness in Farmingdale. I been a member there for a year 1/2 there and i love it. I just put FH under me and all it cost to add him was 99 $ plus the 49 for the last mo.

Re: joining a gym? help please!

New York Sports Club is a good bet for you, I think.

You pay an initiation fee (watch this though -- it changes periodically. always ask when the next promo is so you get the lowest rate.) then you pay a monthly flat fee that includes classes, etc.

A lot of gyms include one training session with the membership.

I haven't been a member of NYSC for awhile now (I LOVE Equinox and highly recommend it!) but I think memberships are going for around $70-75 month there now.

I WAS there!!! I took Allen's Spin Class!

So, I LOVE my gym, Sky athletic in RVC. The classes are great, and included in the monthly fee. Everyone is so nice and the trainers are great too!

My problem is staying motivated!!

I'll be there on Wednesday taking Pete's class, LADIES!!! This guy is a hottie!!! Definitely worth taking the class......

I belong to Lucille Roberts. It wasn't as expensive as some of the others I researched and the trainers were far less. It isn't the most extravagant gym but it gets the job done.

I go to a local gym it's fairly reasonable Like 26 dollars every month all classes included. Personal trainer is $30 per session. But gyms in NY are usually A LOT more expensive!!! Good luck!!!
