Re: Joint Accounts
we looked into that a few days after our engagement. its hard b/c i'm still a student and our salary gap is tremendous! but once i graduate that's a diff. story
my advice to anyone opening a savings account would be to do it online at emigrantdirect.com..they are offering a 4.65% APY and they can link to your regular checking account so you can make transactions back and forth. you have to already have a joint checking in order to open a joint savings though. i think we are going to go with this route.

Re: Joint Accounts
We have a joint ING savings account but we haven't merged everything yet. I spend a lot more than FH, so in part I feel like it wouldnt be fair to him. Is it wrong that we dont share our money yet?

Re: Joint Accounts
Our E-party is next Friday, so we decided that we would do a joint account after the party. Now that we have the house we have so many expenses that a joint account is really necessary... But after all that moving and the holidays it feels better to play the Wii and relax for now lol!

Re: Joint Accounts
We have a joint account, for the bills and stuff and personal accounts for our personal expenses, clothes and stuff.... If I can give you any advice, make sure that you keep your personal account. You never want to have to go you your husband and say, I need 30.00 for a pair of shoes.
I was excited too, but I'll be honest with you, when we first got opened it, it caused a lot of stress for us. I am a very independent person, always have been, so the combining of the finances was very stressful for me.
Since then, we are good with that. He, being a banker, is much better with money then me... I know that sounds old fashioned, but when I lived on my own, I seriously would think, hmmm, pay my car note, or get my hair done.... ummm.... get my hair done!
We are going to keep separate accounts since that is one of the reason many people get divorced over money. I was set against the idea at first then decided I could care less about that. As long as things gets paid that's all that matters. After our e-party we did take all that money and put it into a CD with our names. And that CD is going to be our tail end money like for tips, and honeymoon spending money.

Re: Joint Accounts
Did that within the first month of being engaged. And every week we each make a deposit of the same amount. Also, our e-party gifts went into that account and any other gifts that are for the both of us to share.
