Re: Josieb

I am going with my mother and sister to visit my grandmother and other relatives (dad's sisters, brothers and mom's brothers..and cousins, etc.) We are flying into Rome and staying there for a day or so and then driving to a small town in Naples to visit the rest of the family. I have relatives all over so my sister and I are going to try and venture off (while we are really there to spend time with fam) to do a little shopping, site seeing, etc. We will probably stop in Milan and a city called Casserta (sp?)..

My mom goes every year to see my grandmother and she has been wanting us to go each time. But, because of the wedding/school, I was always tied back and couldn't go. So, now she is treating the both of us to go with her.

That's really it. If you have any recommendations, please fill me in.

Don't be!! Whenever I have gone in the past, my family force feeds me. I am probably going to come back 20 pounds heavier. I am not looking forward to that..

Thx. Felicia. I will have lots of pasta for you.

Ro,
I am visiting Durazzano (my dad's town) and San Agatha De Gotti (don't know if I spelt that right, but my mom's town).
We are prob. related in some weird way...

Red,
I went to Capri when I was younger and remember it being sooo nice..I have to check into that when we are there..
Sorrento sounds familiar too..but, thanks for the suggestions...We are only going from 11 days, so we'll see how much touring I can actually get done without the relatives getting all pissy..

My family is from Sorrento. I have not been there myself but I have heard that the shops are great. My cousins opened a cafe there too.

Well then plan a trip!!!
I LOVED it...
Sorrento and Capri were the last stops on our Italy tour and i couldn't have asked for my HM to end any better....FABULOUS place...and yet tropical, compared to the rest of Northern Italy.

I WANT TO GO BACK>>

I never did the Sorrento/Capri Italy thing.. but everone tells me its a 'Must See'

When I went with my girlfriends a few years ago, we did the typical touristy stuff .. Milan, Venice, Rome, Florenze

Not complaining, though - I had the time of my life in Italy!!

One day I have to look up my grandmother's familiy and track them down, any excuse to go back ..

Sorry to hijack Josie - enjoy! and Mangia!

DIDN'T like the pasta in Northern areas

Re: Josieb

Capri is breathtaking.....I could of stayed there my entire visit...BUT since we stay with family,,,THEY wouldnt allow us to stay in a hotel...NEXT time, I am not even going to tell them I am visiting,,I am going to just show up!! after a couple of days in Capri

JO...
Be prepared to get up early,,there is no such thing as sleeping late while you are there..If you wake up late,,you miss everything and your family will most likely be ready for there nap!!!!

I dont doubt that we are some how related...

Getting jealous by the minute I would LOVE to go back to Capri. Would love to go back to Italy, overall.

I would actually love to locate my relatives who we lost touch with. I want to go to one of these villages where the mailman knows everyone and you just put the name and the town on the envelope, no address. I want to see the more personal side.

I have to tell you,,as much as I would love to take a tour and visit Rome,Milan,Florence etc....there is nothing like staying with family while in Italy..We stay in Naples with my mothers family and then go to Sicily and stay with my father's family...

I see what everyday life is..and by the 2nd day everyone in the hometown knows who we are and which family is ours..They actually know when we are visiting before we get there...Thats how close people in the town are...

i agree....with both i think...

I am glad i got to be able to take the tour to see all the sites and learn from tour guides about the places i went to, the history and such

but i guess i agree...staying with a relative to see the daily life must be such a completely different experience...

SO i think you are missing out if you don't do both or a form of it some how
Unfortunately both my DH and i are Irish/Germans..no relatives in Italy

I guess I have to bug my dad to try and contact his cousins in Brooklyn and see if anybody knows who is still over in Italy. I know my grandfather had a sister over there, but he died in 84 and my grandmother never kept in touch with her after that and my grandmother died in 94 so whow knows who even has a way of reaching relatives.

Jo, I hope you have fun!!
