I just read your response on the 'where/when did you graduate' and I realized that you are pretty young. Then I remembered from another thread that you and FH are paying for your own wedding, bought (or are buying?) a house, have paid off your student loans and have no credit card debt. That's AMAZING. How did you do all of that so quickly?? Do you want to be my financial planner?
ETA Wow, I just reread that and I think I look like a stalker!!! I'm really not, I'm just extremely impressed

partof it is that Julie and her FI both still live at home and I believe by the time they marry, it was a 2 yr engagement, I may be wrong on that though

Re: Julz33, How did you do it??
Btrflygrl is right! We live @ home rent free so we are able to save up a lot of money. Lets see... I graduated from college a semester early...I was one class short of being a year early. I didn't get barely any financial aid so I only took loans for my first 2 years. Junior and Senior year I paid myself. I had class MWF Junior and Senior Year and in TU-TH I had Paid internships. Wed night, Sat and Sun I waitressed and made lots of money. After I graduated I went on a one week cruise and I got a job 2 days after getting back. So I found a good paying job immediately after graduating. It took me 3 months of working FT and still waitressing pt to pay off my credit card bills and loans. MY FH too, he graduated a semester early and got a job right away, but he is lucky he had almost all finiacial aid. We lived together for about a year but when we got engaged realized that our parents allowing us to live at home without paying rent would save us a lot of money so that is what we did. Our houses are in the same town though only like 3 mins apart so it isn;t so bad. Then we opened an ING account and put away about 65% of our salaries every month for 2 years. We don't go out as much or spend money on expensive things but when we see how much $$$ we have it is OK Another reason we are able to save is we both have used cars fully paid off so no car payment. And I still waitress one night a week. I think that answered all your questions?
ETS: 2 year engagement ETS: Not buying a house anymore in NY we have the $$$ but I refuse to spend it on a shack for 1/2 a million bucks!

Wow, that is amazing. Thanks for answering!!
ETS: Moving out of NY is what I'm trying to convince FH to do for the same exact reason. It's ridiculous!

Julz you deserve to be commended. I wish that me and my FI would have been that smart instead of wasting money on rent - and we are so much older than you. You are going to have the best life together. Good luck to you.

How far south?
FH and I are headed to Delaware at the beginning of next year.
BTW, I wish I had been that intelligent about money! Julz, if only all of us were as level headed as you!

You all are so nice! I met my FH in highschool so we both knew that we wanted to marry each other. We decided to wait until after college. We have been together for over 7 years now so we had time to plan It is not too late to start saving now. Write down all of your monthly expenses and whatever is left over you HAVE to put into savings every month no ifs ands or buts!

I thought I remembered that, which is why I asked. My sister lives south of Atlanta (Fayetteville - it's in Fayette County, right next to Peachtree City). She moved there the day after she got married and has been there 15 years. They love it! They get so much for their money and the kids have such great lives that they wouldn't have had here. Do you know where yet?

That's awesome, good luck!! You will definitely like it, it's a wonderful place to raise kids. And the land and houses are incredible for the money.
