Another post reminded me how I never wrote about this...
FH and I sent STD magnets in our holiday cards. When our friends (married couple and our BM/GM) got theirs, FH's best friend took a phone pic holding his with the caption 'No wonder why your wedding is costing a million dollars!' (He's exaggerating obviously).
Fast forward to when I go to the dress salon with my BM and she had to fill out the wedding information. When it asked for the date she said to me 'When is it again?' And I said 'Well, that's what the magnet is for!' and she had this look on her face. So I said, 'What, did ya throw it out?' Her reply was 'he thought it was funny though...'
We got back to their house and the magnet wasn't on the fridge. So I said to the guy... 'So, I hear you threw out our magnet' And his response was 'Yeah! Because it was G*Y!!!'. I didn't say anything back but on the inside I was a little hurt. Like he was putting down our little ideas for our wedding (their wedding was a very simple justice of the peace and backyard bbq affair).
Anyone else have to deal with something like this? People putting down your ideas? I'm sure he meant no harm but it still wasn't nice...
Oh well. I wonder how many other people threw their magnets out. But I mean, if you didn't want it, I would have taken it back! Jeez!

I thow out the STD magents I receive from other people weddings. Sorry but it's the truth. I sent out STD magnets for mine - more for people to know the date than the actual usage of the magnet. I don't really expect people to have it on their fridges for months and months.
I do expect people to write the date down and not ask 'when is it again?'

Maybe it's not the throwing it out that bothered me. It was more making fun of the idea in general. And at least remember the date, considering they're in the wedding.

I would be hurt...and I don't think it's the fact that he threw it out...I think it's that ...
A. She didn't even 'save the date' B. was so blunt about throwing it away C. Mocked your idea D. Didn't even make up an excuse like 'I lost it'
it also seems that they are no frills type of people-and the thought and financial investment stuff like a 'save the date magnet' wouldn't strike them as something they would care to keep.
So yes- I would be offended but, I would let it go because they didn't think they were doing anything wrong by just being the way they are. Just next time- don't expect anything more.
I come to find more and more that people do some isht...and think nothing of it.
I get why your mad and it's easier said than done but- forget about it...it's not fair to you because they never even thought twice about their actions.

Oh I agree. I just don't like my ideas to be mocked. We're all individuals with our own ideas and ways of doing things. And I already have let it go. I'm not stressing over it. Just wanted to mention it to see if anyone else had to deal with something similar. Thanks though!

One of FH's friends did the same thing. He totally mocked out STD one day. I told FH that I am not sending him one of our nice invites. He can get a freaking email for all I care.

While I wouldn't expect everyone to keep my magnet, I would expect my bridal party to know when the freaking wedding is! Not only that, if these people are that close to you I would think they would want to keep it at least until after your wedding.. When one of my best friends got married in November I kept her program and placecards and invite..I am kind of a pack rat and super sentimental though so maybe that's just me!

Wow, that's pretty ridiculous. We didn't send any to FH's friends because we didn't think we'd have enough, and then when we did he said they wouldn't use them. But I don't think they'd even go to that extreme!

I understand. I am finding the more I am planning my wedding the more people just don't care. I'm not talking about friends and co-workers, but family. I have heard more okay, well it your wedding that i just stop talking. If it wasn't for LIW I would be so alone. Okay enought venting. This is for everyone who had to deal with stuff.

FH's best man annoys me! He is always asking us 'when is the wedding?' 'What time?' And I sent out STD, invitation, RD info and Brunch info! Like your kidding me right?!?!

I totally understand what you are feeling. It's not a big deal that it was tossed but the mocking really pisses me off. How dare someone mock the things that you spent time creating?!? You are a sweetheart because I would've had something NOT NICE to say to him

Some people are weird with weddings and have weird ways of reacting to stuff. I have a friend who received another friends STD and stuck it on his car because he seriously didn't know what to do with it. He lives with his parents and feels weird putting it on their fridge.
Other people do throw them away after a while.
I do think it was mean of your friend to say it was gay. Totally immature and idiotic. It def is jealousy though!

thats kinda rude. i mean, i dont expect ppl to have them stuck on their fridge for life, but to mock it and call it 'gay' (which is completely asinine) on top of tossing it is rude. you should have suggested that as 'gay' as it was maybe he should have kept it considering they arent able to remember the date on their own

HMMMmmmm... What a rotten thing. Don't let them rain on your parade, girl You can't please all the people all the time, is what I say! I personally have ALL my STD magnets up until after the wedding, then I throw them away. I'm sure everyone else you sent them to enjoyed them and have them up.
