Just a tip about centerpieces and possible danger to guests

Just a tip about centerpieces and possible danger to guests

I got to a lot of conferences and such and do a lot of banquets and receptions of sorts. I just wanted to pass on this tip.

Watch those small Candle Holders!!!

Some of you may know what a roly poly looks like. The short rounded voltive holders. You can put a voltive or a tea light in it.

Well at last conference I went to, the table was set with just a few of those on the table. The disaster as the sugar was on the other side of the bread plate. No one thought twice. On lady grabbed some sugar but then sorta ‘hopped’. She had burnt a whole through her coat while reaching over the TEA LIGHT. Tiny little tea light at the bottom of a roly poly. But the flame was high enough.

Later that even at our formal banquet another woman burnt her sheer sleeves and slightly burnt herself.

So for those who are setting their own tables (like me, I set an example then they follow it) or even if you aren’t, (this place was set by the Hotel we were in) be aware of those candles.

Just thought I’d pass it on.

Thats' weird ( and scary) soudns like they didn't cut the wick down. They should be 1/4 inch.

oo - I never thought about that.
I have seen candles in high centerpieces catch on fire a lot. They look nice but having a floral centerpiece catch on fire isn't worth the risk
