Don't Procrastinate!!! We gave ourselves 2 years to plan this wedding so we would have time. Well, we got engaged, I blinked, and now it is just about 7 months away and we are scrambling for vendors. Everyone books up way in advance so don't put it off. You don't want to have your heart set on something and then find out that you waited too long. I am now kicking myself for spending most of last year saying 'oh, we have time' instead of actually planning. Ok, I'm done rambling now.

Re: Just a word of advice for those newly engaged
Thanks for the tip. At this point we are over 2 years away, so we really do have time, but I want to get my *** in gear and have the hall booked before the end of this year. I hope everything works out for you.

Re: Just a word of advice for those newly engaged
I second that. I started booking vendors two months after we got engaged.. so in Aug of 2003 we booked most of ours.. and STILL had problems finding vendors dates open.
That's over a YEAR in advance!!!!!
Hair and Makeup went EXTRA fast as well. That was the most shocking (i dont know why I didnt see that one coming)
The first Bridesmaid dress everyone loved was discontinued on 12/31/03. Who knew? So we had to pick another.
My own wedding gown will soon be discontinued (so they say).
Never too early!! NEVER!

Re: Just a word of advice for those newly engaged
I agree - we had two years to save and plan.. and besides the hall in the first year we didnt do much else.. actually I tried shopping around for stuff.. and besides the hall and the dress everyone looked at me like I was crazy and some people gave me dirty looks when I tried to do other stuff early!! my FMIL is still asking what I am rushing around for? according to her I have SOOOO much time!! ( Meanwhile her relative gets engaged and books the hall 3 1/2 years before the wedding date - and she says nothing!!)

Re: Just a word of advice for those newly engaged
Same here went a couple weeks ago to order my dress after they gave me a price and they said it was discontinued. But I found one even more gorgeous that I loved even more.
So makeup and hair book quick too!! OH NO!!! I don't live there so its hard for me to go for a trial to find one. CRAAAAPPP!!!

we had an 8 month engagement and I had no problems...it also depends on the wedding date...we are getting married in March....it's a slow month

Re: Just a word of advice for those newly engaged
However, there are some things that you cannot book until the wedding date is closer. For example, I tried to book my church today and they said that they don't even have the book for 2005 yet, let alone 2006. So next year I have to call and set the date.

I've heard that you should book the limo's 8 mnths before. Is that right? How far in advance did you get your hall?

Re: Just a word of advice for those newly engaged
We were originally planning on a date in April or May of 2005, then last November FH says why are we waiting so long - let's make it September. I went from having 'plenty of time' to Crap! Now I'm late!!!

Re: Just a word of advice for those newly engaged
I got my limos last month for Oct. But then again I got mine in Queens and they gave me the best rate ever. At least I think so. My FMIL made me pick a place about 15 months in advance since she also said they book up quick. Luckily the place we loved had that date available but Floral Terrace was booked solid for this whole year at the time except for 2 dates.....Insane

I've been told also that vendors go fast - especially if you have a date over a long weekend (like I do).
Now - CRAAPP!! I only have
The Hall The Officient's (sp) The Band The Dress
No limos No flowers No anything else
Does anybody know what I should have by now??

Re: Just a word of advice for those newly engaged
I had 16 months to plan.
Now I have 5 months left and still haven't booked a photographer, video or florist. I visited them all early on and never made a decision. There are so many people who provide this service that I'm amazed that none of them are booked already.
We booked my hair and makeup right away and just found out that the person we booked is pregnant and not taking appointments (we called to confirm the appointment we made 7 months ago and it was only then that we found out) The one thing I booked early fell apart and strangely enough seems to be the most difficult to find a replacement - even with 5 months left!
If you book things early - confirm with them every 5 months or so just to make sure. You never know what can happen. If they go out of business or move - they will probably not tell you.
