Just Fell Off the Wagon

Ughhh... so Ive been on atkins hardcore for 5 DAYS and just crashed and burned!! Im so disappointed in myself...... FH wasnt handling the diet as well as I was (which is weird bc normally Im the one jumping ship first) and he went on and on how he couldnt do it.... and I caved with him.... so we are thinking of starting WW on Monday. I hope I can lose weight on WW. Last year it took me like a month to lose a couple of pounds.. prob 3 lol... I dont want to lose it that slow... thats why I tried atkins ughhhhhhhhh

Ok, vent over for now... lol

You could always be really really good all week and then fall off the wagon on the weekends. The carb restriction will be good either way becuase it'll cut down on calories and water weight.

Dont worry!! it happens to everyone and Atkins is not natural (no carbs? i would die). I'm impressed you made it more than a day!!

Just as a suggestion, last time I wanted to lose weight quickly, I cooked 3 meals on sunday nights (grilled chicken, a huge salad, and whole wheat pasta w/red sauce). if i dont have to cook during the week, (just hit the microwave) i tend to eat less junk.

Atkins is tough. Have done it before but never lasted more than a few weeks. Got sick of eating the same food all the time and no carbs. WW is a great program. I've been doing Jenny Craig since October and have lost 33 lbs. And my biggest advice would be - when you crack and have a bad day, start the very next day as if it didn't even happen. When I've dieted in the past and blown it, I then use that as an excuse and totally quit and go nuts eating everything. But I think the reason it's working this time is I'm not trying to be perfect. The consistency is what counts and sticking to it. Good luck. Don't be so hard on yourself.

I tried to go no carbs and I made it 6 whole weeks. By the end of the 6 weeks I was craving chocolate milk like heroin. I was like GOTTA HAVE QUIK!!! I was like jittery and stuff. I'm too picky an eater though so I couldn't keep it going.

Don't feel like your the only one. I fell off too and I got dragged by the wheel. My weakness is chocolate and I can't stop eating it. I wanted to try WW to get some discipline.

WW definetly works. I lost 62 lbs on it a few years ago! it is not a diet it really is a change in habits and lifestyle.

good luck

I did atkins a while back and got sick, your body CANNOT totally be without carbs, so I'm trying something new, not really new, just new to me!!! I'm eating a diet heavy in fish (salmon, shrimp, etc) salads, fruit and veggies and am throwing in some whole grains, brown rice and whole wheat bread, I had pasta once this week (which is good for me, as I usually can have it 7) and I'm cutting down on portions and exercising daily don't worry about falling off the wagon, it happens to everyone, but don't use it as an excuse to stop watching, be lenient with yourself and if you have a bad day, get up the next and start all over again, you'll be fine and you'll look beautiful on your wedding day!!!!! Good Luck!! Sending you hugs!!!

Re: Just Fell Off the Wagon

Thank you ladies for the confidence, I really appreciate it.. esp after feeling crappy for eating bad. Yea, maybe I really should do WW and work on my portion control. I was telling FH that I started to notice when he served me my dinner, I would eat everything on the plate..... not even bc I was still hungry- but simply bc it was just there. I was thinking of using smaller plates from now on, so it helps trick my mind lol Hopefully that will help me.

Awww...don't worry...it happens to the best of us. The way I look at it is if you are being so strict all week, that you should give yourself a small reward...such as a cookie ha. Just something small to hold you over another week. I have been doing then and I'm down 5lbs!

this is actually not good...

I was on atkins for a while, and in my readings i learned that if you restrict carbs during the week, and then indulge on the weekend, your body actually holds on to all of the carbs you eat and basically immediately turns them into fats and sugars.

thats why when you go on atkins it has to be a lifelong decision and lifestyle change because as soon as you introduce carbs back into your diet, you usually gain all the weight back and then some.

take my word for it.. .atkins isn't worth it.

Look, if you did five solid days of healthy eating, I think you're allowed to have one bad day. You have to treat yourself sometimes. Don't feel bad about having a slip up.

Dont beat yourself up- it happens to everyone who diets. You just have to see the next day and brand new day.

I definatly would say Weight Watchers is amazing. Its so hard to screw up on WW because theres so much 'wiggle room' to eat what you want. Over the past year I've lost 55 lbs on WW. Try it out- even for only a month. Its become a life style change for me now, not just a diet.

What do you mean? Like follow WW but just avoid things with carbs??

Ladies thank you so much!! I woke up this morning with the worst headache.. I dont know why!! I'm prob just stressing at how I dissapointed myself But, thank you for all the kind words because I do feel better after reading all of your posts Are any of you ladies on WW now or planning on it? What type of foods do you plan on eating? Ive never really had success on WW (I think due to the fact that I wouldnt eat as much throughout the day- but I would save my points to eat something that I wanted... I dont think that helped). Thank you ladies!!

Re: Just Fell Off the Wagon

i'll be honest with you and say that i think you made the right decision. I dont believe in Atkins, its weird to me to see a diet where you can have bacon but cant have apples lol, but also its not good to cut out anything completely. Believe it or not you do need a little fat, and with no carbs it can be hard on your body, thats why i know of ppl who even fainted when doing atkins. ESPECIALLY if you want to work out and diet, then no carbs can be hard. I had a friend do atkins and she was also working out, well she passed out at the gym and they took her to the hospital. Everything is fine in moderation, like even with your dinner you have a certain percentage of protein and starch of course starch alot less and you will be fine.

WW is a much better choice, you are not cutting out anything that your body needs.

Plus i always found it hard to follow the advice of the guy who came up with atkins considering he died at a young age from a heart attack

but this is also why i dont follow specific diet plans, especially ones that just by looking at them you know you cant do for years and keep up with it. Some are to the extreme or i hate diets that tell you to eat like 5 different things for breakfast but tiny portions, im not doing that lol. SO basically i just eat what i know is healthy and i like and dont mind eating. I always say that when it comes down to it, you know whats healthy and what you should or shouldn't eat ya know. Maybe try the fat smash diet, its that dr's diet that was on celebrity fit club. I heard its amazing and ppl lose alot of weight plus its something you can keep up with. They said ppl lost alot of weight and for example he says eat a healthy sandwich for lunch, he will tell you what or a salad and you can have fries but he says you have half of it, he tells you what the portion should be. They had a bunch of ppl on tv who did his diet and they were losing about 10 pounds a week at first.

Re: Just Fell Off the Wagon

What's with saying it's NO carbs with Atkins? There ARE carbs, the good healthy ones, and it's just restricted for the first two weeks, they call it the induction phase. That's to get you to lose weight faster. But check out the South Beach Diet because that's healthier then Atkins! You do need good carbs for energy. It's closer to what jennaandguy09 posted. Her post makes the most sense all around. Watch your portions!

Also, have a cheat meal once a week. That's where you have a little of something you really like so you don't feel deprived. Don't go overboard! That doesn't mean you can eat big slabs of chocolate cake! LOL. You can defeat a week's worth of dieting by eating too much of the wrong things over the weekend.
