Just Got Back From My First Dress Shopping Excursion...

...and I am a bit overwhelmed...styles I thought I totally didn't want looked pretty good once I tried them on...does that happen to everyone? I wonder if the style I think I want will end up not looking as good?! How confusing!

Congrats!!! It is really overwhelming but fun!! Do yourself a favor and try to go to as many places as you feel comfortable and try different styles. It is amazing that something that may have looked so-so on the rack looks amazing on and vice versa. It is great that you didn't limit yourself to one particular style, you may end up looking beautiful in something you may have never thought of as an option. I found out the same!!

So true that you have to try different styles. I went to Macy's in manhasset with my Mom, and I tried strapless A-line dresses..a few really worked with my body type...I'm petite...and it totally threw me off. Then the sales lady kept trying to cut a deal and brought the price down, so I was close to putting a deposit on one until I realized no way, man, this is my first time looking.

This pic shows my dream dress, which I have an appt to try on next week...I'm thinking of having a seamstress friend make a version of it if I like it on.

It's definitely good to start looking ASAP, so you can give yourself time to digest all the stuff you see.

OOOooooo I really like that dress!! So different!

And yes, dont be tempted to buy cause a salesperson is pressuring you - take your time - its a big decision!

I agree! I went on my first outing yesterday too! But, I went to daviid's bridal. I had no intention of buying a dress there (and I didn't) I just needed a place to figure out what i liked. If you need a place like that, go to the one in Carle Place, theyare no help whatsoever especially on saturday's! I leaarned a lot, like Ivoy looks better, and not to get a long train etc. LoL. Wish you lots of luck and don't get pressued, there are tons of places, and tons of dresses!

i found the same thing. i also found that some of the dresses that i loved in pictures i hated on me. be open to the suggestions the people helping you have, but take them with a grain of salt. sometimes what they say really does make sense. try on lots of styles and don't rule anything out. have fun...you will start to narrow it down soon.

Re: Just Got Back From My First Dress Shopping Excursion...

Thanks for the tips! I had another shopping day today, on the Lower East Side at Adrienne's...I liked that place sooooo much better than Macy's...totally more my speed. The saleswoman, Gina, was great, and very down to Earth and I tried on completely different dresses and have a much calmer outlook now. I totally recommend the place to anyone looking for dresses that differ from a strapless ballgown type of dress.

And I agree, unicorn1178, that Ivory looks better...at least I like it better on me anyway.

Dress shopping is fun!!!
