I agree with Michelle on all she mentioned. Also, if you don't have a clue as to where you want the reception, there is a book called Locations. They sell it in many magazine/newspaper stores but I went to Fortunoff's when I registered and I saw that they had them there for free. Locations basically lists many of the places in the LI area-also some in Westchester, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and has a lot of info on each place. Like price range, maximum # of guests, type of food and many more vitals. Good luck. There is a diverse number of places being booked by people on this board so you can get a lot of feedback. Most of the time it is very friendly on this board :o) Welcome
This board is great, don't let today's posts make you nervous. Everyone is VERY nice and VERY helpful.

First place to start is to decide when you want to get married, and come up with a few dates. Then start looking for a hall/place for the ceremony.

I certainly am not advertising my services on this board. I'm sorry you took it that way, but it is not the truth. I'm much too busy to stoop to such practices.

From the last post that Lauren made, it sure does seem obvious that her photographer did not fulfill his responsibilities.

Congratulations Colleen
Well a normal year goes by very quickly and from what I am experiencing an engagement year goes by at warp speed.
It sounds like you already have your date? So the next big thing is the place. I started narrowing down the vast LI selection by deciding on an approximate guest list number, meal style and budget. Then we took a look through Locations magazine for places that fit. One note about Locations mag. the information about room size and price is not always correct If you like the way something looks or have heard good things about a place give them a call and check it out before starting the road trips.

Congratulations and welcome! I'm sure you will find this site incredibly helpful.....no matter how different all our wedding styles may be, we all are going through the same process....

I have found the 'locations' book, that was previously mentioned, incredibly helpful as well. If you do not want to buy it, you can actually access it online at (locationsmagazine.com)
