Just had interview

Just had interview

I just had an interview for a higher position at my company. Im not sure if I want the job now though. I met with someone from HR and she is going to make an appointment with the hiring manager for monday, for me to sell myself.

The problem is two things. The first being, that im not sure I am cut out to do this job. There are a few things about the job that I don't want to do, and I am going to have to do them monthly.

The second thing is the HR woman told me that I am going to have to sell myself and be positive and energetic about my current position and the job that I am interviewing for.

The thing is, that its hard for me to be positive about anything that this company stands for or anything having to do with this company. I am thinking I should just stop wasting my time looking for another position with my current company and concentrate on getting a position with another company.

I just emailed the hr rep to tell her that I would like to think about the position over night and I will let her know if I am still interested in it on thursday. I wanted to email her before she spoke to the hiring manager.

Now I don't know what I should do...

Trust your instincts. If it doesn't seem like it's something you really want to do, don't do it. Money doesn't (always) buy happiness!

i say go with your instincts...if you accept a higher position with a company that you're not happy with - the chances of you ever leaving are slim because you'll be more invested in the company
good luck!!

Re: Just had interview

I know. I am so interested in getting out of there now, but If I cannot get a job somewhere else, it may be good to get out of my current department. The money should be better which is a plus but im sure there will be more aggravation.

See how confused I am? I don't know what to do. I got an email back from the HR rep saying that I should meet with the hiring manager and then if the hiring manager or I do not think the position is for me then at least I went for the interview. I thought what I went for today was the interview, I didnt know I was going to have to do it again.

This is her email:
Hi Scott,

I should have shared this with you, you can talk with ***** and then if there is mutual interest, you can talk with your manager. I will not say anything to your team. If your mtg goes well with *****, I would advise you to have the convo with him. Does that sound ok to you?

I didnt reply to the email because I dont know what to say....someone help me

i would meet w/ the manager. if nothing else, it keeps your interviewing skills current.

email her back:

thank you for yor repsonse. i am interested in meeting w/ xxx to discuss the position. is it possible to arrange an interview for moday?

this way you have a few days to ponder.

Re: Just had interview

I was supposed to meet with her on monday anyway...I guess I will think about it over night and see how I feel about it in the morning.

I am still waiting to hear back from the job I interviewed for a few weeks ago, and I may have an interview with another company coming up the end of this week or early next week...

Re: Just had interview

OK...
1. you have mentioned you don't like the direction your company has turned...that would tell me - that you should get out

2. but you don't have a job to get out to - but taking this promotion adds to your resume that you were proactive and that your company respected your work - so maybe you should take it until you find something else

is this a position that is in high demand? are there other jobs out there right now?

Just a thought, I would be a little concerned about leaving a job before your wedding. Why don't you begin looking after your wedding. Consider vacation time etc. not to mention the stress that comes along with learning a new job. Maybe you make that change once you're married. JMO

Good Luck

No...This is a rare experience that they are hiring someone for this level position. Most people that have been getting hired here in the past year have been account managers or higher up's...It is very rare that they hire someone that is of a lower position.

The Hr person said that they would rather hire someone that already works for the company. than someone off the street.

Yes i thought of that too, but I am so burnt out here and I dont think i can take the stress until August. I know it is only 6 months away but I have been going through this for over a year and I am so blah....I am always stressed out, tired, and mad about the way we get treated. We get no respect, no recognition, and very little pay for the job that we do....We meaning the other people in my group.

I thought about vacation time and the added stress of trying to get out of here. I am fully aware that I will have to tell the people that I am interviewing with after they hire me that I have to take two weeks off during the summer for my honeymoon. I tell them during my interview that I am getting married this coming summer, so they know that I will be planning to go on my honey moon then too.

The extra money from a better job would help Danielle and I out alot due to the fact that we are paying for the whole wedding ourselves, and it would make me feel better about my self. Lately I have been down in the dumps, and not feeling like myself, and its all because of how unhappy I have been at my job.

I guess I shouldn't let it get to me but I cannot help it.
