It was small and quick but very nice. They had bagels and muffins and our Dean made a really nice announcement about me (how she appreciates all my work, etc). They also got me a really pretty floral arrangement, which is so nice b/c I haven't had flowers in so long but it's absolutely humongous and I don't know what to do w/it now!! Also they got me a nice gift...it was a little weird, though, because it was one of our knives from our registry (finally!)...i say it's weird b/c I'd heard that giving someone something that can be used as a weapon is considered bad luck (which I guess is why no one else has bought one yet!). So I guess I thought it was odd for that reason...were they wishing me bad luck??? But then there was a penny taped to it and they told me that was for NOT bad luck...in other words, I was supposed to give the penny back to them so that the knife is no longer a 'gift' and thus not bad luck. Interesting. anyway, it's a cool knife.
Then, right afterwards, one of my coworkers came into my office with a Williams Sonoma bag of her own! She is SO sweet! I can't believe she bought me her own gift. i just opened it up and it's the cheese grater we registered for...she said she got it because it reminded her of when she was in Italy, which is where we're going on our HM. It was so sweet, she almost made me cry. It's seemed for so long that no one here really cared (or even knew!) I was getting married, so it's really nice to have people like that around.

that's so nice! I've never heard of anything like that with the knives - but I could just be ignant! But I'm happy you enjoyed your shower!

im laughing here about the knife... my fiances first gift to me when we were dating was a henkles 4 star knife that i wanted.. i never knew it was suppose to be bad luck

Your shower sounds nice, I know how busy you've been at work so I think that it's really great that they gave you a shower. I have been kind of bummed lately since everyday (even weekends) I work my butt off for 100 people at Ernst & Young. I have to schedule all of the auditors and therefore be available for emergencies like if someone has a family member pass away, I have to quickly replace them on the client engagement. Basically it's been really stressful and I'm always going the extra mile to get the executives whatever they need in terms of staffing. I was really disappointed that they are not throwing me a shower as I have attended four baby showers since I started here and baked something and bought presents of course. I guess they don't do the bridal shower thing, but it just makes me sad b/c I'm so far away in San Diego and feel like no one is excited for me out here, it's just everyone in NY. I'm so happy that you got one as you definitely deserve it. I can't wait to FINALLY meet you next week! One of my BM lives in DC so I'll have to make sure to introduce you! She's trying to get me to move there.

Thanks Karen. I was actually pretty surprised. I really didn't think they were going to do anything for me, either, so I totally know how you feel!!!
I am looking forward to (hopefully!!!!) meeting you too. I can't believe it's next week!!!

The way the penny thing works is that when you receive a knief or sissors as a gift YOU are supposed to give the person a penny. That takes the bad luck away!!

Huh, I've never heard about not getting a knife as a bridal shower gift. I know you can't TOUCH any knives, scissors, etc, but I didn't know that you couldn't receive them as gifts. And that penny thing is definately something I've never heard of! Funny!
Well Alison, hopefully your shower helped to brighten your day and relieve some of the stress!
