Just have to vent...

Just have to vent...

Dh is always coming home to me telling me about the sad stories he sees day in day out... people he deals with that are living 'ghetto fabulous' in the hood.... hardly have enough to get by and feed & clothe their kids, yet are driving the Lexus' and Benz's. I mean why is it that society is all stuck on material things? Not for nothing, but image isn't everything... your health is! If you look like a train wreck... just because you are wearing Gucci buckles on your shoes or diamonds in your ears... doesn't mean that you are doing your health any favors! I mean is it me or wouldn't you take care of your PHYSICAL self and family first before anything else? It's just sad to think otherwise. It's seen way too often. And trying to 'identify' with the rest of the world is no excuse!

I couldn’t agree more. Hence when people ask why I have the same car for 7 years I say “It’s a sports car, I like it and it’s paid off”. I eat peanut butter & jelly sandwiches to pay off my credit cards faster and never make minimum payments. I don’t have more than $2 to my name right now, but who cares? I got food in the fridge, gas in the car and a roof over my head.

We as a society have become extremely dependent on material things. I admit I’m just as guilty. I couldn’t imagine life without an AC or heat. Most houses, like my parents need a TV in every room. EVERY ROOM! Kitchen, living room , sitting room, study, all there kids bedrooms, guest room and master bedroom. For what? They had to have a computer for each floor of the house. Come on! Is it any wonder we all need 2 jobs? It’s not so much that things are expensive, but we buy things we really don’t need, but really do want. No shame in that. But those Ghetto highlife folks drive me nuts!

Family of 6 living in a one bedroom house but there’s a Mercedes parked out front. Makes me wonder where the money came from. If it’s legit then makes me wonder if these people just like being where they are, if you know what I mean.

Amen! It's a shame image controls so much of what people live for.

There's a commerical out there for some mutual fund company or something that makes me laugh because it perfectly describes this conversation... some guy is playing golf at a country club, mowing the lawn of his expensive house, driving a fancy car, eating out at fancy restaurants and stuff, and he says something like 'I have all these great things in my life, but I'm in debt up to my eyeballs! Somebody help me!'

There's SO much more to life than what you wear or what you drive. Your money only goes as far as your grave! Of course I am guilty of having 'expensive taste' for a few things too, but I still try to be more of a good person inside than outside.

Count me in on this one.....I get so mad at people that do that to their families. I simply don't understand wearing name brand things while you're kids are starving. I try not to be materialistic in things (I drive around a banged up car cuz I can't afford to get a new hood), but my bills are being paid off and we are doing the wedding ourselves. I for one, don't see anything wrong with buying kids clothes at Walmart (my FSIL says she finds stuff for $1 or $2!!) when they grow out of it on a few months!! Certain things that I pay good money for (Coach bags) will last a lifetime and I don't buy them often. I haven't bought a new pocketbook in over a year. I also won't hesitate to blow $40 on a coworkers' b-day cuz she has nothing for herself or $70 on my sisters' b-day because I'd rather do for others than do for myself. It's what is inside that matters (or is supposed to), not what we flash on the outside. For those that can do it....Great!! I'm happy for them, but because I can't...does this make me less of a person? You're great if you have food in your belly, a roof over your head, clothes on your back, and someone to love and to love you. It's all what you make of what you have!!

So...

Bc I like nice things and have a nice bag or 2, it doesn't mean that I look like a train wreck bc I work out hard core and I am very healthy.I won't even go near someone who smokes.
and bc I am getting a Benz and want TV's in it doesn't mean that I go without food.....

I think if Ronnie and I work hard enuff we can always have nice things..
Including clothing houses and cars.

and ask anyone who knows me..I am the most generous friend u can have!

Also I Love Target and I got great jeans there.. So I get what I like and I don't care where its from!
