Just lowered my cable bill by just asking!

Just lowered my cable bill by just asking!

I called them up and was put on hold and switched around a lot, but I just told them that I wanted to lower my bill, but NOT lose HBO.

I had to give up a premium channel, but here's the deal:

(stealing from fatwallet.com)
Previously paid $117.95 + taxes for their 'dbest package' which included RoadRunner internet service and 4 premium channels (which include OnDemand for those channels)

I have to give up ONE of the premium services, and they broke up my 'package' as follows:
$34.95 - RoadRunner internet service
$59.95 - Cable with THREE (instead of 4) premium channels (with OnDemand)
======
$94.90 + taxes / month for 6 months

After the 6 months, each of the above items goes up by $10 each, for a total of $114.90.

--------------------
So after that I'll call back and get another promotion, or switch back to my original plan. The difference for me after taxes is $24.

Try it, it can't hurt.

I've read lots of articles where if you make phone calls to various companies, and have the patience (and time) to handle being transferred around .. you can get lots of things reduced.

Believe it or not .. reducing your APR on your credit card is one .. and I'm not talking about transferring balances or switching to a 6-month promotion .. I'm talking about actually getting the APR reduced .. I've done this!

Also .. if you do happen to be late with a credit card payment .. you can usually get the late payment fee waived .. as long as you haven't made a habit of being late.

Congrats on the Cable bill!!! We need to try something like that as well. Would you happen to remember the department and/or person you ultimately spoke with on getting the deal???

The CC thing is totally true. I always have annual fees waived. I simply call and say ' I have good credit, and always pay my bills on time...what can you offer me' and I get fees waived and lower rates.
