Just Moved In Together

FH and I just moved into an apartment over the weekend, and I am the one having anxiety about moving away from home.

I was just wondering if any of you girls felt like this and if so what helped you get over the anxiety?

I felt the same way when I moved out, I cried for days lol. Eventually the feeling just went away. Its still new so it will take some getting used to.

Don't worry its totally normal, I cried for days and then everytime I saw my mom and left I would cry again. Its really difficult moving away from home for the first time. It will get better, you just need to get use to it.

Re: Just Moved In Together

I wish that my first apt was with FH, but instead, about a year ago, I moved in with my friend, but the apt is right near FH and my parents are less than a mile away. I wanted to move out of my parents' house, but sometimes I miss being home and I get anxious without them around.

The one thing that really hit me in the face about leaving home was when I had the flu a few months back. I was crying because I was all alone! When I spoke to Mom about it, she felt TERRIBLE! She told me that she would have come over, made me chicken soup and stayed with me. Of course, I cried more when she said this!

Are you close to your parents' house? If not, the phone helps A LOT!

Best of Luck to you! Try to enjoy your freedom!!

Re: Just Moved In Together

I moved out into my own apartment when I was about 22 - my parents were moving to Florida and I wanted to stay in NYC.
First off, focus on the positive. No parents to answer to! No one telling you what to do! Lots of private time with your FH! Decorating everything the way you and your FH want!
Also keep in mind that you'll be learning things for awhile - it's all a part of the growing process. Don't be shy about calling up your parents to ask them what temperature you should put the oven on to bake potatoes and funny stuff like that! They'll get a kick out of it, too.
It's totally normal to have anxiety. But I'm sure that some of your anxiety is also excitement at being on your own now!
And congrats on moving out!

i didn't have any anxiety moving away from home, it just took time for me and FH to get adjusted to being around each other 24/7 and living together.

Don't worry, the anxiety will go away and you will love it

FH and I lived seperate for a year b-4 we moved into together; we were both out of our parents house for a few years, so yousomewhat get set in your own ways. When we did move into together it was a hard adjustment but IT DOES GET BETTER and you really start to like it!

Like a lot of the girls have already said, Don't worry these feelings will pass as time goes by. Its a big change & you need to give yourself a chance to get used to the adjustment.

My mom feels bad everytime I am sick too and shes not around. It's really cute. I miss living at home so much!! I don't know what I was thinking when I moved to FL just for the fun of it.

I got so depressed after I left that my NY trips are usually every 4-6 weeks now. The phone DEFINITELY helps if your not close. If you are close to home...go hang out over there often

Re: Just Moved In Together

I had anxiety, but not from moving away from home. I lived with one of my girlfriends for years before FH and I moved in together. My FH and I have a wonderful healthy relationship, we always have, even before we lived together, but it was a HUGE adjustment for me. I think it was because he was moving into MY apartment and I was freaking out cause it was getting filled up with BOY stuff and it was a GIRL apt for years!! I felt like Monica in Friends. LOL

The only thing that really helped me was when we started to buy stuff together and it became OUR apt. It just took a few days to get used to it and I felt so much better.

How far from home did you move?? You will adjust, it may be harder for some, it may take a little longer, but the anxiety will go away. Your family will always be there for you. Besides, I think you will learn to LOVE the freedom! Good luck to you!

I haven't moved out yet and the first time me and FH will live together is right after we get married!!!!

My friends who have gone through it say that it is just an adjustment and things get better day by day and you will eventually love living with him!! The phone will be your best friend!!!!!!!!

i am so excited about finally having our first place. I couldnt wait to move out of my parents house, but now that I am finally out i am having second thoughts about it. I know it will get easier with some time.

I just really want to enjoy it but Im not because I am homesick. I just have to adjust.

Thanks for all the support girls. I am happy to hear that I am not the only one who is sad to move away from your parents

Re: Just Moved In Together

I was half way into a apt with FH for years so I think I had the best of both worlds for a while so moving out completely wasn't hard at all. I see my parents every weekend and talk to them on the phone several times a week. It's tough at first but in my case at least the freedom was a great thing!!

And even though I had a great relationship with my parents before this, I feel it is even better now because we have more 'grown up' things to talk about
