so i have not been to happy with the wedding planning due to financial reasons and im sooo stressed.. All me and my FH ever fight over is money bc we are paying for a majority of the wedding on our own.
I don't know what else to do to cut it.. It is soo disheartening bc everything i wanted to do has to changed throughout this process due to money.. Ughh anyone else feel like giving up on there dream wedding?
I always thought when it was my time to get married that this would be such an exciting time . I did not realize that planning such a big event as a wedding would cause so many issues and arguements.. oh well
guess things could always be worse...

Re: just need to vent
i hear ya!
i have BIG BIG BIG dreams
and my wallet does not match!
I think that was why I wasn't happy with my RH, because it just wasn't what I really wanted. I have expensive taste
there are lots of way to save and cut corners, but unfortunately that means that youre settling on your dreams
focus on what's most important to you...
like for me it was flowers and photo
I knewwww I wanted HUGE flowers, so I knew Id have to settle on other things
what about pushing your date back to save more money? get rid of all the little things- programs, baskets, etc.
and prioritize....what is most important in your dream?!
sorry so long!
i just understand what youre going through...thats why we're doing it in Mexico!

Re: just need to vent
I can definately relate b/c we are doing it ourselves (except a few things my mom gave us for)
It can get stressful but we just went over the (somewhat) final (the most we could possible spend) and are trying to work from there
For example I didn't even count tips but we both get paid right before the wedding so that will be the tips if it comes down to it.

Re: just need to vent
my fiance and i are paying for our wedding ourselves. our families are barely contributing, so wedding planning is beyond stressful. it's hard b/c there are a lot of things that i want at our wedding that might have to be cut out. even coming on here and hearing everyone's great ideas is hard sometimes too. it's like hey, i want that at my wedding. at the end of the day, you just have to be realistic and do what you can afford. there is no way that my fiance and i are going to go into debt over our wedding. yeah, it would be great to have an over the top wedding, but it's no way to start your lives together. i think you need to decide what is important to you guys and cut the things that don't even matter. either way, you're wedding is going to be amazing b/c it's all about you and your fiance.

Re: just need to vent
We are only doing this once.. so we are doing it to our dreams potential.
we decided if we don't have the money by the time of the wedding, we are taking out a loan to pay for the rest. but as of now, we are paying as we go & it's working for us!
keep your head up!

Either post-pone or take out a personal loan. My friends took out $25K just in case money... luckily they only used about 3K of it and paid everything back immediately after from what they got in gifts.... and their gifts were more than the $25K!

Re: just need to vent
We are paying for this... I think my parents will help us but not too much... That is why I keep saying my wedding is low budget... I have to try to stay within budget BUT I think that is NOT what I have in mind! I was thought getting married in a place like Swam Club, with tons of things all over, and what not.... But obviously It is NOT happening...
But I am going to try to have FUN while planning bc it is OUR wedding... I KNOW we will get stress out... but I knwo it will be So WORTH it at the end of the wedding, all of the stress.....
It was the same thing in our E-party... We spend almost double than predicted and we got a LOT of stress!!!! But we were SO happy after it!

Re: just need to vent
Whenever I get bummed about not having everything I want at a wedding, I think about FIL's and my parents. They didn't have designer dresses or centerpieces. They just had the bare essentials and after more than 3 decades, they are still together and in love. That's what's really important.
My parents paid for our intitial RH deposit and FH and I are paying as we go along. We have not had to charge anything yet but it is difficult with a mortgage. My parents will give us another contribution but I asked that they give it to me near the wedding date when we might really need it.
FH tells me not to worry because any last things we can charge and pay off right away with our gifts but I really don't want to do that. I'd rather we save the money toward having a baby
I know you've been conflicted through this whole process but if you really want to cut the budget but not the 'extravagance' of a wedding, cut the guest list.
A sunday night at my RH factoring in site & ceremony fee, taxes and tip, it comes close to 200 a person. However, my minimum is 100 so although I'm not 'saving' alot of money, I don't have to compromise the style and feel I really want.
David tutera always recommending cutting guest list to cut the budget!
Less invites, less favors, less centerpieces, less everything!

I think many of us are in the same boat as you. Keep your head up. Look at what you really want and see how you can do it less costly. Can you ask family members for a 'loan'? This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it is important that you do not compromise your happiness. Let us know if you need help searching for something specific.

I understand how you feel :(
I can't even suggest any cost cutting measures-other then maybe cutting the guest list??

Awww Serena...if it makes u feel better, none of our families r helping us pay the wedding. FH and I r the ONLY ones doing it, mostly FH. Something that I think is helping is try to save as much as u can, everything counts! And try to make payments in parts so a big bill doesn't hit u at the end

Re: just need to vent
What would I do without you girls!! THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!! Everything will work out.. Going to florida for a mini vacation with FH to see my bestest friend and to not think of anything wedding related!!!
I know it will be the best day of my life no matter what..
There are many things I'm not doing:
Viennese hr- only will do some cookies and maybe a chocolate fountain the whole viennese is too much money and noone really eats at that point- since lombardis has soo much food
no out of town baskets- there aren't enough people im sure they will bring what they need
no flip flop basket- noone i know has done this
no special save the date- doing what is included in my photo package
invitations- are going to be through someone i worked with for me engagement invites and she sells it to me for wholesale!!!
bridal party gifts- will prob buy jewelry on sale nothing extremely fancy since i have over 10 girls... i know im insane!!!
no photobooth or any additional special effects maybe uplighting depending on dj package..

Re: just need to vent
I one thing i did to cut cost, since FH and i are having a large wedding and paying ourselves is i cut out a bridal party. all the girls i luv will be there and im sure they dont mind sine its less $$$ for them (and since my bach party is in mx, they can use dress and shoe money to go to mx instead and wear what ever they want for the wedding). So that means No bridal party gifts, no extra limo and RD..

Re: just need to vent
You've already gotten so many great words of encouragement, so I'll just say there are tons of us that are paying for our weddings by ourselves and who have champagne taste on a beer budget lol.. but as long as you feel beautiful (which I'm sure you will) and have fun (which I'm sure you will) It will all be great! (and the good thing is that Villa Lombardi's is gorgeous on its own)
