BF and I are still looking for my engagement ring. But we technically arent 'engaged' yet. Anyway, my sis who had a destination wedding with only 6 guests wants me to get married in Las Vegas. Says we can convince mom and dad to pay for it. Found out the whole plan was conceived by my mom and had my sis push the idea on me. Very ****ed. I wanted traditional wedding in our church and everything. Now Im hell bent on having what I want. Now Im certain that my parents wont help pay which is fine by me, but they want me to get married before they move to florida in Sept 2005. I had planned on having my event in Aug 2005. Now that BF and I have to pay for everything, Im considering pushing it to 2006 to give us plenty of time to save up. Im guess-timating things will run about $20K, so I need to save up every penny. Plus with all the poop my mom has pulled, I kinda want to wait for her to leave anyway, so she doesnt interefere with any of my planning. Not even engaged and I all ready have a headache!! The only comfort I have is that my baby loves me. Hmmm..... I all ready feel better. Thanks for lettting me vent!! Looks like I'll be starting my own group of 2006 brides!!!

Re: Just need to vent...
i understand your delimma and it ****s. you should have the wedding you always dreamed of and if you are paying for it yourself than thats what you should have.dont let anyone else persuade you to have a wedding in a way you dont want( time and place), you will regret it forever.

Wow, that was kinda sneaky of them...good luck!! I hope things work out the way you want them to! Um, just one thing though, and not to put a damper on things...I don't know how big your wedding will be, but you might be spending a bit more than $20k. You should look into reception hall pricing for Sept & Aug (both prime times), you might be suprised at how ridiculous some of these places are. You may need to rethink your budget. Good Luck!!

Sorry about that. Parents can be real Jerks sometimes. Just remember that it is your wedding and don't let anyone else tell you what to do. It will be yours and FH's wedding not anyone elses. Good Luck. Do you know when you will be officially engaged?

Re: Just need to vent...
Funny you ask.... As I stated before we were looking for engagement rings. I found out BF has a $6K balance on his credit card. Instead of fuming, I reassured him that we can work this one out together and to put the money he has saved for the ring towards the balance and together we could pay off the remaining in a few weeks. He said he didnt want me to find out about the debt but that he feels better now that I know, and that I'll have my ring by the end of the year. I told him it had nothing to do with the ring and all he needs to do is ask, but he's stubborn and old fashioned and insists that no fiance of his is going to be walking around with a bare finger. I may disagree, but I respect him for it. Right now Im just reading the boards and doing research. When I show him all the stuff I want to do, he gets excited too. Im rambling on. My point is, he is the only one that makes me feel better. Im just going to take everyone's advice with a grain of salt because even though we may not marry tomorrow, I'll know I'll be with him forever. Im still going to try to shoot for August 2005. BTW - I know someone asked if I should up the budget, but Im looking for something elegant but low key. I'd like no more than 100-125 people, so Im looking into small venues. Again, Im in the first stages of research, so I might have to up my budget. Thanks for the support guys!!

You can probably save $20K by that time. We have been putting approx. $500 a week each into the bank. Sometimes less sometimes none sometimes more. But couldn 't your parents come up for the wedding at least? I am surprised that your mother would want you to do a quickie wedding!
Good luck - I'm sure you'll be able to have the type of wedding you want!

Re: Just need to vent...
As far as budgeting, even smaller venues can be pricey, depending on how nice they are. But some can be reasonable. My advice is to budget upwards (ie: find out how much things normally cost and add on a hundred to two hundred more - depending on what it is) - and then you'll be covered if you decide to upgrade your stuff. For example, I have seen that girls have paid $2000 to $5000 for flowers. We cannot afford that but I budgeted $3000 for them. I found a florist that can do it for $1600. As for dress, I budgeted $1500 for dress/headpiece/veil/shoes/purse/stockings/corset. My dress is $1200 with tax and alterations so I got $300 for the other stuff. I am using ebay to find a headpiece. Tri-county flea market has vendors that sell inexpensive and nice veils and headpieces too. For photo/video/limo we went to Queens Bridal Center. Got an amazing price. I looked through all the books and I liked what I saw. It pays to shop around too. But as long as you have a budget at least you know approx what things will cost and if you budget upwards you have a few $$ to play around with if. Good luck, you know you can always find alot of advice on here!
