Okay so I am at work bored out of my skull. I am excited though because Jesse and I are heading out to check out halls today hoping to have some luck. So TWO people asked me when I was getting married. So I said November 2008. And both had that reaction like 'you are crazy why are you looking into halls now' look and said 'What?' 'Already?' I know its nothin crazy but talk about putting a damper on my day! Like why ask...people can plan in advance. And of course I had to give the break down of how it is not as far as they think since I am a student and I still have to graduate.
I am sure you 08 girls have been through this.
How do you not let it get you down?!

most definite!!! when i told them i was getting married in 2008 they said why so long? you guys should've gotten engaged next year. I want the planning to go smooth & not to so stressful. Do they even know how much a wedding cost. I get that all the time. Why are u getting married in 2 years- you should get married next year.

don't worry, they would ask that question no matter when you got engaged and were getting married....we got engaged in april 06, and decided on a march 07 wedding, which is 11 months of planning, we got, 'why are you getting married so soon.'
So, you are not going to please everyone all of the time. Ignore them, you don't have to justify yourself to anyone. There is no set time limit for an engagement. Good luck in planning!

i mean it is august 2006 and when i tell them January 2008 they are like why are you waiting so long
and they dont even know i have been engaged since december 2005!
people will always have something to say!
they would definitely pass out if i told them that before the end of this year i will have all my major vendors done and probably have a dress!

lol my mom still CONSTANTLY refers to my wedding being 2 years away.
For example, we'll be looking at something for my sister who is getting married oct 2007 and I'll say 'oh I think I might want to do something like this for my wedding' to which my mother replies 'we're not worrying about that right now. Your planning a wedding and not getting married for another two years. . (add the sarcasm)
Mind you I'm getting married in March 2008 which is almost less then a year and half from now...
Don't worry we understand and we don't think you're crazy!!!

The truth is you need to handle as much as you can early on, so your not jammed up later! I think people just love to give unsolicited advice and opinions, you just gotta do what works for you.

You simply tell them - KISS MY BUTT!!!! my grandfather still asks me when I am getting married (even tho he knows) and then says Nov 2007??????? like it is some big shock - why dont you move it up so i say - oh thanks!!! that is so nice of you to pay for it!!! then he shuts up! hehehe

omg--we had the SAME THING happen to us alllllll the time.
i've been officially engaged since March 2005. but we looked at halls before he put a ring on my finger...and we put the deposit down on the hall a few wks after the proposal. can i just TELL you how many ppl looked at us like we were smoking crack when we said we were getting married in Feb. 2007. if i had a nickel for every time i heard 'wow--um...it's 2 yrs. away, don't you think it's early?'
hellllooo---of course it's not too early! our month already had people booked up when we paid our deposit. now we are 6 mos. away!
let those ppl talk--cause they don't know JACK! LOL happy planning to you!!!!!
