I know that some some people have their bridesmaids & groomsmen stand during the ceremony and some do not. I'm still deciding.
For those who are already married, what did you do and what was your reasoning?
If your not married yet, do you know yet what you want?
I'm just not sure why it matters. Does it look better a certain way??? I think I'm going to have them all sit except the MOH and BM... but not sure

I did... because that's how it's done in a Jewish ceremony. Both sets of parents stand at the sides of the chuppah, and then the bridal party extends outward. We had a short ceremony (30 minutes including procession) so it wasn't a really long time to stand.

Re: just wanna hear peoples opinions on this
Im thinking of having the girls sit on the left side of the church and the men on the other side, on the 1st row. I dont want to see my girls slouching or moving around cause their hands are tired from holding the flowers during the ceremony or something like that.

yeah, that's what I've also seen done. I was just in 2 weddings within these last 3 months. In the first one we all had to stand, and it was horrible. I was trying so hard not to fidget, but that's difficult for me. And every time the camera zoomed in on the bridal party, I was in the process of holding in a yawn (which put a VERY awkward look on my face) And then in the second one, the bride told us all that we'd sit (except for MOH and BM). It was like a gift from God. hehe. So I think I might give my girls a break and do that also. still deciding.

Re: just wanna hear peoples opinions on this
i didnt decide, it was just how our church told us to do it during rehearsal. Only our moh and best man stood up with us, the rest of the bridal party sat in the first row. I think it depends on the church and how the altar is, at my church i cant imagine everyone being up there

Re: just wanna hear peoples opinions on this
At my sister's wedding, the BP sat in the first pew, and only my sister, myself (2 MOHs) and the best man were in chairs on the altar. I think I'll probably have my BP seated, but it's an orthodox ceremony and they're not involved in the ceremony at all, just our best man who will be koumbaros and an integral part of the actual ceremony.

Same thing. We didn't have a choice, that's just how they do it.

I voted for all of them not because I think it looks better, but because those people were very important to me and DH and we wanted them near us as we made a huge commitment to each other. JMO

Re: just wanna hear peoples opinions on this
I'm only having my MOH's and BM's stand. I have a huge bridal party and my I know my girls will not be able to stand still and I wouldn't want them to feel ansy or uncomfortable. Besides it will look ridiculous having them all stand up there at my church.

Re: just wanna hear peoples opinions on this
I went to a wedding where the party all sat in the first pews on wither saide and the bride and groom sat in chairs on the alter!!! I DEFINITLY DONT want to do that!!!!! She also had a full catholic mass which was an hour. I'm just doing a ceremony so i'd like everyone to stand up at the alter with us. But i'm not paying good money for a beautiful gown to sit in a chair on the alter!!

Re: just wanna hear peoples opinions on this
We had all of them up there with us but we had a small BP and all the members were family (my 2 sisters, FSIL, my DH's best man was his friend of over 20 years). If I had had a large BP, then I probably wouldn't have all oof them up there with us because we got married in a gazebo and there wouldn't be enough room lol IMHO I think it looks better if not all the BP is up there with the and .

We're going to do this too for our Jewish ceremony, both sets of parents, my sisters (MOH), his brother (BM) and our BM and GM too.
It's funny b/c I wasn't aware of this tradition, as when my sis got married a few years ago, she didn't do this. Then again, sadly her DH's parents are deceased, so they may have left this out on purpose. Not sure.
I was a BM in my friend's wedding last summer, and she had a big BP and we all stood up there, including her parents, his parents, their aunt & uncle too. It did seem a bit crowded, but I liked the idea of everyone up there. Then we went to FH's friends' wedding last November, and they also had a big BP and everyone stood under the chuppah. It was a very beautiful moment.

I've also been to Catholic weddings where the bride and groom sat on chairs at the altar, and the BP sat in the first row of pews. They were both beautiful ceremonies, but it did look a little strange to see them sitting down throughout the ceremony, only standing for certain parts. I had sat a few rows back at one, and was behind the BMs, so I wondered what the pictures would look like, considering the only people in the middle of the aisle were the bride and groom. The BM and GM couldn't be seen unless the photographer was walking around the church to take their pictures.
As for us, even though we will have everyone up under the chuppah with us, I did request a few chairs to be placed on the side just in case, since my dad and FH's mom have knee problems and may need to sit. My dad is actually going to have knee replacement surgery a week after my wedding, so he's been in extreme pain for a long time now. He'll have cortisone shots just to be able to dance with me at my reception, so I can't imagine making him stand if he just can't. My BM will also be 7 mos pregnant and she may need to sit down too. Even though it may look strange, I'd rather have our parents and my pregnant friend be comfortable and not be in pain than to have perfect photos for the 1/2 hour that our ceremony will be. I have my own leg problems, so I'm worried about myself being able to stand in one place for a 1/2 hour without hurting!
Hope this makes sense.

Re: just wanna hear peoples opinions on this
In the weddings I have been in, except one, I along with the rest of the BP stood the entire time. In the last wedding everyone else sat down while I stood since I was her MOH. I think more than anything the reason she had everyone else sit was because it was a full mass so it was a very long ceremony.
I want our BP to stand with us during our ceremony. Our ceremony will only be a half hour long, and I definitely want those special people that we have chosen to be up there with us while we exchange our vows and really share in that moment with us. To me I feel like they have been such enormous parts in our life, that they deserve to be up there with us for all to see!
