just when i thought i had photo and video all figured out...

i read the contracts...my photo contract states something like they own all rights to use my photos for their promotional uses (not a fan unless i state in writing that they can, i mean what if god forbid i have a hugggge blooper in my wedding that becomes viral and they make millions off it...not really a fan), that they can cancel up to 5 days before the event (and leave me hanging for my wedding because maybe they got a better offer...what!?)...and other things

and my video states well if there is a union strike and he can't perform his duties, not only am i screwed for a video, but he is also holding me responsible for the fees he would have made...why am i responsible for a film i never got because YOUR union strikes....or that they can hire any sub-contractor they feel is capable if they can't do it...well gee i'd like to know that before i say OK go ahead...

...and thats just some of the BS...the only reason i post this is because i hope you girls are reading your contracts too...with a fine tooth comb...my dad is giving me money toward my wedding and does advertising for a living and he wants me to ask them to amend their contracts and i plan to use them...

I think most photographers state in their contracts they can use your photos. I feel like that is common. The fine print is scary.

are you going to stay with them but work out the contract kinks or find someone else??

i feel like the use of your pics is a given - doubt they'd want to use a blooper reel because then the public would have a bad image of them and their client relations.

BUT paying for a non-existent video in case of a union strike is weird and makes me uneasy.

i understand the rights thing because i think you're correct, a lot of photographers say that...however my dad was explaining to me that in his buisness with advertising and creation of goods that he would think this is 'work made for hire'...i'm not so good at explaining it but you can google what it means...

Thanks for the heads up. I think photographers may only use your photos for their own advertising purposes like putting them on their website. What are you going to do about the contracts?

In my contract they asked if it was ok to use my images for promotional business. Ladies def. read through it and make sure that if your photographer is sick or there's some kind of emergency that they will give you a qualified assistant.

i'm going to try and ask them to amend their contracts...my dad typed up what he feels they should read because he does all the contracts for his work place...we'll see if they bite...

Thanks for posting this. I will definitely read all contracts with a fine tooth comb. You are definitely lucky to have a father that works on contracts! I would never have even thought to do that.

yea i have to say...my dad was like 'DID YOU EVEN READ THIS??' and i was like sorta thumbed over it....but honestly i hadn't really spent too much time on it figuring it's probably fine and tons of people sign them everyday, so what could be so bad? plus so far they are the two most reasonable people i like for what i want...so i'm hoping they will make the amendments to appease us because i really want to book them
