Do you call people for a job and then they give you a time and date they will be by to meet you, and they never show? We've had this happen several times with different things. How do these people run a business if they are like this? Obviously we don't call them back if the jerk never shows when he says he will.

I dont know why people are like that. If they never show, obviously they are NOT reliable, and dont take their job seriously. Hubby has his own business, and if he is going on an estimate, and will be late or cant make it, he will have the courtesy to call.

We've had this happen several times so I was wondering if other people have run into the same problem. I think its so rude. We will sit around and wait for someone to come to give us an estimate on something and they never show up or call. I don't know how they can run a business like that.

Re: Just wondering................
Yep, that has happened to me.
And even more confusing are the people that come, spend over an hour here, ask us questions, write things down, take measurements and then NEVER GIVE US AN ESTIMATE!! I mean - i realize that they dont care that they have wasted our time - but what about their own time? Why bother if you dont plan on giving an estimate??? This has happened to use many times!!
I think in general that this profession is full of people who are just brain dead! And the ones that have an ounce of common sense, skill and plain courtesy do very well b/c their competition is so terrible. Ive had that exact sentiment told to me a few times from people in the business.
I think i picked the wrong profession :D

Re: Just wondering................
Most recently last week: arranged for delivery of 3 yards of topsoil. Missed the appointment, DH called mid-afternoon and they said a driver had not shown up but they would be there soon - never showed, called late the next day and left a message that they didn't get back from out east on a delivery until after 9:00 the night before, and did we still want the topsoil. Only problem is that they had told us the driver would call shortly before the delivery, so why couldn't they call and say they wouldn't make it on Wednesday when it started getting late?
Last year, the arborist that came and spent an hour discussing what we wanted done never sent the estimate, same thing with the alarm company - though they did send it when we called, but never followed up. And the guy from the heating company to give us an estimate on improving the heat on an extension - we had to call them 3 times, and the guys that were supposed to come with samples on stone finishes for the fireplace....
We have had some good ones too, but we've been shocked at the number of people that don't follow up.
Oh, and lets not even discuss the guys that were supposed to plow the driveway last year and left us stranded after the big blizzard and wouldn't return calls....

Re: Just wondering................
Oh this sounds so familiar!! With all the work we have had done this year I cannot tell you the amount of people who have either not shown up for a scheduled appoitment or did show and then didn't bother to send an estimate.
Most recently we had a painter come to give us an estimate on repainting 4 rooms in our house. He was recommended by a friend of Gene's who had used him. He measured, checked out all the rooms and told us he would get back to us with a written estimate in a few days. Well it's now 3 weeks later and no estimate. I even called in case it had gotten lost in the mail and he never called back. If he didn't want the job I wish he would have just told us. Why waste our time and his? Ughhh!
Karen you have had more than your share of these experience!! I have no idea what is wrong with these people. I guess they are all rich and don't really need the work. Jerks!!!

Ohhhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhh! Im still waiting for the hot tub guy that was supposed to be at our house for an all day appointment about a month ago. The guy comes and looks at the tub changes a $4.00 part and leaves. We fill the tub that night and by the next day its empty. We call him back. He shows up and decides that there is a leak (Wow imagine that ) He then procedes to tell us that it will be an all day job because they have to disconnect and lift the tub and he gives me a price that includes the time he spent on his first visit. Fine, we schedule the appointment.
