JUST WONDERING- engage. party

OK
So, my parents are pay for the entire reception and I know it is a lot of $$$ and FH parents are paying for a lot of the 'other stuff' band, limos, flowers....

I am a bad person for wanting an engagement party...NOT for the presents, but just for wanting a party...to have people together

I would NEVER ask my parents or his...but part of me really wants one...

can we throw our own??? or is that tacky?

Maybe you can pay for it, but as your parents if they'll be the hosts so it doens't look tacky

You can definatley throw your own engagement party! Just make sure you tell your parents how you feel, and how much you apprecitate how much they are already doing for you!

We had an engagement dinner with immediate family-his and mine. It was exactly what we wanted.

I think you most certainly can throw your own... My friend is spilitting the cost in half with her family...and she wouldve paid for it in full...cuz she wanted one!

The way I see it... You only get to do it once... so do it to your hearts desire!

Re: JUST WONDERING- engage. party

who are you inviting???

here's another thought... would it be ok to have it as a bbq during the summer or mem day and give my parents the $$$$$ for the food and stuff????

Re: JUST WONDERING- engage. party

defiantely ok!!! That sounds like a great idea!! I wish that we could have it like that, but family is coming in from FL, so we wouldnt be able to have a rain date, and i dont think we can fit both sides of the family into the house!!

We are just inviting family and close friends... however some people invite their entire guest list... FI wouldnt go for that idea!!!

Etiquittly speaking, the purpose of an engagement party is for both sides of the family to meet...

Fh's sister is throwing her own. I dont see anything wrong with it, especially since her parents cant do it for her and his parents live out of state. I wanted one too, just to celebrate and FH didnt think it was a good idea because he wasnt sure who to invite and he thought it would be an inconvenience to the people invited. I ask myself, Why bother having a wedding then??

I say go for it!!!!

I really like the idea of a bbq. That is what I want to do for my party. Have fun planning it!

I think you can throw your own party. I know people who are doing that. Just run it by your parents first so you don't run into any wierd feelings or anything.

It is definitely ok! We are throwing our own engagement barbecue in June some time. We are paying for the whole wedding ourselves too. We really want a laid back feeling to our party so we thought a barbecue would be a great way to have this!
