Ok ok...you're all saying WHAT???? but me and my friends are really into karaoke and the whole time before I was officially engaged I told people that I absolutely would have karaoke at the wedding. Now that the time is finally here to do some planning I really don't see how karaoke is feasible. Has anyone ever done this at their wedding? I had a suggestion that it be done at the cocktail hour but once everyone is done making up their mind what they want to sing and get up the courage to actually do it...what is there 1/2 hour left? then only like four people will be able to actually sing. Then I thought do it like a raffle...everyone puts songs a fish bowl throughout the night and every 20 minutes or so someone's name gets pulled out and they come up to sing...am I losing my mind? Tell me honestly.

Re: Karaoke at the Wedding?
imo, karaoke is more suitable for a smaller group of people. With a mixed group (different ages, tastes, etc.), I'm not sure it would work. I've never seen it done at a wedding.
I would ask people outside of your circle of friends (since you know they would like it) and get their opinions. If others like it, then go for it. I also think that most people want to dance at a wedding. Karaoke becomes more of a spectator event and, if the singers don't have good voices, it may not go over very well.

Personally, I say no, it's your day but you have to consider your guests. If most or all of your guests would enjoy kareoke then go for it.

Re: Karaoke at the Wedding?
I think it's a really cute idea since I personally LOVE karaoke. I think I would save it for an after party though in case not everyone who wants to sing is vocally gifted--you don't want to subject 200 people to that! Is there somewhere you could rent out for an after party? I know a few places in Manhattan have private rooms--we did this for my b'day

Re: Karaoke at the Wedding?
I think your fishbowl idea sounds like a good one. I personally love Karaoke. I see you are getting married at the Miller Place Inn. Are you from the area? I use to Karaoke a lot as well.
You could also start it during the cocktail hour with the friends you know will sing. Tell your DJ if it goes over well to carry it over into the reception. Miller Place Inn has the upstairs area during the cockatil hour where you can have it all set up. Just be sure not to only have your friends who sing great(if any) singing at the cocktail hour. People who aren't as good at it, may not want to try it if good people intimidate them...
Let me know what you choose. Forum Mail me!

Re: Karaoke at the Wedding?
One of my best friends and his wife had karaoke at their wedding. It was a room full of theatre people, so of course, it went over well. You have to know your crowd, though.
What they did to control the quality was invite certain people beforehand to be part oft he karaoke-- to choose a song they want to dedicate to the couple. Some sang sappy songs, others chose things that were personal jokes or memories, funny commentaries on relationships, etc.
This way it incorporated an element of their favorite pasttime without allowing it to become out of control-- no horrible screeching to subject your non-karaoke-inclined guests to, no people paying more attention to the song selection books than the wedding itself. It was planned enough to avoid problems, but the songs were still surprises-- and a little more special because they were tributes.

Re: Karaoke at the Wedding?
I don;t know. it's a neat idea, but not everyone at the wedding will be in your circle of firneds..there will be family I'm assuming, etc. Karoke is fun, but it belongs in a bar. I don't go to a wedding to hear other people singing along to whatever they feel like singing. It breaks up your dance party, it' annoying and I really don't think most people would appreciate it, and I don't think it belongs at an affari as formal as a wedding.Maybe for an after aprty or rehearsal dinner

its completely up to you. I personally am not a fan. But if that is what you and your friends, more importantly FH are into then go for it.

I wouldn't do it @ the wedding - But you could do it @ the rehearsal dinnier - That would be a great alternative to the norm..........

Re: Karaoke at the Wedding?
We had it at our Jack & Jill shower late night. It was hysterical... so much FuN!
Personally I wouldn't have it at the wedding, maybe an after party once the wedding is done or the rehersal dinner. JMHO
Good LUCK!

Re: Karaoke at the Wedding?
if you just want a really fun, laid-back atmosphere, I'd say do it.
If you're going for something more subdued and sophisticated, of course, I wouldn't do it. It all depends what YOU want on YOUR day!

Re: Karaoke at the Wedding?
We did not have Karaoke but my dad hired a Cher impersonator for our wedding. She was a totally hit.
My best friend had karaoke at her wedding because thats how she met her DH and they went to a karoake bar all the time while they were dating. It was really good except when people were singing the same song over and over and over... maybe have it for an hour or so.

Re: Karaoke at the Wedding?
i was looking at limos and they now have a H2 equipped with a karaoke machine. I have a 1/2 hour ride to the reception and love Karaoke, so i'm thinking about singing all the way to the reception with the wedding party!!!
