Kathy, I didn't feel right jumping in on Marcie's conversation. I hope you don't mind answering a similar question for me. Scooby is almost 10 months old. His vet said Purina Pro Plan Small breed puppy food is good. I only give him dry kibbles. In fact, he said that's what he feeds his dogs, but I don't know what tye of dogs they are.
Does your husband have a specific reason why ProPlan is not on his recommended list? I too was very confused, switching from the brand the breeder recommended, what the pet store recommended, what the vet said and what Scooby liked!

Also, at what age do they switch over to an adult dog mix?

I thank you so very much.

Re: Kathy116

My DH only recommends Iams, Eukanuba and Science Diet for dogs because the quality is superior based on the high level of trainings of the veterinarians who are associated with the products and Wellness has had some problems in the past regarding their purity, and DH has had a number of animals get sick on it. Pro Plan doesn't really have the variety of small/med/large breed, and they tend to be too high on their proteins, and the dogs tend to grow too quickly and dogs can end up with bone related problems.

My DH usually switches small breed dogs to adult food at around one year of age.

There will always be a problem re: food recommendations, because pet stores want to sell you the food, breeders have their quirks about what is necessary and most veterinarians are well informed about the dietary management because they have been involved with the sickness associated with diets.

Kathy, thank you so very much. I wish your husband's office were closer. He makes so much sense. I need to rethink this food thing now. He's out on the eastern part of LI, right?

Thanks so much.
