Does anyone know where I can buy a good kayak? We just got back from our honeymoon in Alaska (AWESOME) and went kayaking for the 1st time and both loved it. We'd like to buy them but don't know where to find them. I looked online at Sports Authority & Modell's and didn't see much. Ay advice is appreciated.
Oh, and can anyone recommend a good place on the island to fgo kayaking? TIA

Re: Kayaking?
I bought my husbands online, I can't remember where. In any case I found the best deals online once I picked the kayak I wanted. I will ask him tonight where I bought it.
He loves it.

Re: Kayaking?
My FH family lives in Bellport, I know there is a Kayak place on Montauk Hgwy or South Country Rd towards Shirley. You can buy & rent kayaks there. It's a nice place to go B/C it's near a nature preserve and if you go out far enough you can hit the great south bay.

That place in Shirley is on Montauk Hwy. west of william floyd. Great selection. Also at the traffic circle in Riverhead is a good place.

I just got my dad a gift certificate to the Peconic Paddler in Riverhead. I think they may sell kayaks there too. www.peconicpadler.com

Re: Kayaking?
This isn't related to buying a kayak, but if/when you get one make sure you lock it up properly when you aren't using it. My dad had bough my mom one for christmas and they kept it outside by our lake house. They (stupidly) didn't lock it up and it was stolen. Their homeowners insurance didn't cover it so they were out the cost of the kayak...

I see people kayaking everyday, right on the Long Island Sound.
