Keep us in your prayers

Keep us in your prayers

I just found out today that my dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I am so clueless about this cancer so I plan to look it up on the internet. The doctors said he is stage two which is not that aggressive. He is thinking his options over and on top of that he has a heart condition which he would have to check with the Cardiologist to see if surgery would be an option. I am upset and just trying to think positive.

Everything with the wedding planning was going so well...that I even mentioned to FH that I was waiting for something bad to happen. This is it I guess. My dad has gone through so much! He was also a victim of abestos(spelling?) and they had found something in his lung but mentioned to him that so many people live long lives with abestos. So we were thankful at the time to hear the good news. My dad also fought in Vietnam and was exposed to agent orange so that could of been a factor as well. I am such a strong person..I feel so numb and I haven't cried. But, I know I will. I have always been the person to be strong for the family. I hate the unknowing! So for now we are waiting until my dad sees the doctor. It's harder for me because my parents live in Texas. So I am asking for your prayers! Thank you girls!

Re: Keep us in your prayers

i'm sorry to hear about your dad. My dad was diagnosed in nov. with mesothelioma (asbestos cancer) - i know how you must feel. Look up everything you can, but remember, everyone is afftected by a disease differently. Most of the info i found was very negative (life expectancy-wise), but he is doing ok - getting chemo (without any side effects that are too bad) and the tumors are not growing. I didn't want to make any plans until i knew how things would be, but after a failed surgery attempt in february, he said to me 'now what are you waiting for? get going! So, i did and he and my mom are looking forward to it and it keeps them optimistic!! Hope it works out for you - keep up a positive attitude - it really helps!

Re: Keep us in your prayers

My prayers definitely are with you and your family... .

I too, am going through the same thing...wedding plans were going along just great until Memorial Day weekend...my fiance's father found out he has lung cancer...BOOM! There went everything...

We were spending the past month in the hospital...he was hospitalized because he was bleeding...then had a stroke, seizures, etc. etc.

He's home now...but things will be crazy for a while with his radiation and chemo treatments...

We're just praying he makes it to December to see his first son get married.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this...it's rough...especially at a time when things in life should be happy! But stay positive...be there for your dad...he's going to need you!!!!

gypsey eyes, My prayers are with you and your family too. I am glad to hear that the tumors did not come back. I am happy to hear that you were able to start your planning because I know that is what your dad wanted you to do. The good thing about my dad's prognosis is that the cancer is not aggressive. But, we just want to know our options.

Re: Keep us in your prayers

Franksbride, thank you and all I want is for my parents to see their daughter walk down the aisle. My prayers are with you and your FH family. I am so happy that I'll be going down there in 2 weeks. So I am hoping doctors will be able to answer my questions!

judy - thanks - prognosis...don't be too caught up in that. We were hoping to find out 'how long' he had, etc., but it is a very difficult thing (especially with his type of cancer - it is fairly new and not too much research has been done). So, we just take it day by day and just not think about it too much, we just appreciate the time we have with him now. I think, though, in the back of my mind, that since i am the last of 6 kid to get married (and his youngest daughter) that he is holding out to be at the wedding - and after that things won't be so good for him. I know its kind of morbid, but knowing my dad and since there is no cure for him, it is how it may turn out. I'm okay with it all now, it does take time - a lot of time - to be settled with this, but just make sure to enjoy him now as much as you can. ~Karen

Re: Keep us in your prayers

Write all your questions down on paper...there are so many things you'll want to know...and you may forget.

Then, write all the answers down...because you're going to get soooo much information...and it's all mumbo jumbo to us (well...for us who are not doctors)...

so true -write it all down and ask lots of questions, even if you think they are stupid or unrelated - you never know! I ended up being the one in my family that met with the surgeon w/ my mom after the surgery and had to tell the rest of the family, so thankfully i wrote it all down because everyone had questions and i wanted to be able to relay the info correctly. Plus, once i was more educated about the disease, i felt more in control over the situation.
