keeping cookies fresh?

Isn't there a trick to keeping homemade cookies from getting rock hard. What do you ladies do to accomplish this?

See, I thought I had heard this in the past but I wasn't sure. Does it actually work? Have you tried it? Is there any particular kind of bread that works best? lol

I've done the bread thing too. or...and i know this will sound gross, but the fattier the cookie, the longer it stays soft. So sometimes I substitue some of the butter with lard (or crisco). Not a LOT of it...just a little haha. Or i'll undercook it just slightly because it'll keep cooking after you take it out of the oven.
