anyone ever go to a wedding in Kentucky??? I have one at the end of October and I was wondering what to expect...
Plus, it is costing a lot to get there and stay there-and it is not really a good friend- (dhs friend/old coworker) and they were not invited to our wedding- What is appropriate to give?

Re: Kentucky Weddings- 2 part ???
I went to a wedding in Indiana which is pretty close. It was buffet, they definately didn't get as dressed up as we do on LI, and there was no alcohol. HTH

Re: Kentucky Weddings- 2 part ???
I'm actually from Kentucky and getting married there.
The weddings seem pretty normal to me. The attire really depends on the couple themselves I guess. Ours will be on the formal side.
There are certain parts of Kentucky that are 'dry' and serve/sell no alcohol at all. So if you do attend a wedding in Kentucky and there isn't any alcohol, that could be the reason..... :) The part of Kentucky I'm from, you can't purchase alcohol on Sundays.
Our reception will be a plated sit down dinner. Our friends are getting married next weekend and they are having a buffet dinner. So really, just depends on the couple.......
I'm sure you'll have a great time! Kentuckians are pretty nice ;)

Comfort Suites are usually pretty nice, not too familiar with the other ones.
What kind of church is it? If it's baptist, there will definitely be no alcohol.
I've never been to a wedding in KY but, I've been to ones in Ohio and VA. They are different than the ones here in NY. The main difference I've found is that there is a lot less food. Also, all of the ceremonial stuff usually done at a reception is done early and then at least half the guests leave and those who want to can stay for dancing. I've been to some that were full open bar and others that were beer and wine and cash bar for everything else.

Re: Kentucky Weddings- 2 part ???
it is a Catholic Church I figured out that Memorial Hall is a hall At the church...
How should I dress for this affair? and What is an appropriate gift? I have heard it is expected that people give gifts rather than money...
we are spending a good amount of just going...
What is there to do there also-since we will have two days of touring around...we will have a rental

Re: Kentucky Weddings- 2 part ???
i would just dress elegant/casual. i wouldn't recommend a sexy cocktail dress--maybe something a little more conservative.
as for a gift---just get them something off their registry. if they don't have a registry, just head to macy's or jc penney's and buy a simple bridal item like a vase, or photo album.
weddings down south are nice--but just not the same as a LI wedding!

Re: Kentucky Weddings- 2 part ???
sorry Ive never been to Kentucky but I live in PA and there weddings are so different. they usually have just one meal or three choices but you have to reply on your response card what dinner you want. I was telling my co-workers about my wedding and they are all like wow look at the menu in awww. I guess use Longislanders just do it alittle different huh!
